Barbequed Chicken: An Independence Celebration
What’s the first thing

sauce, any flavor
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
sauce
2 small garlic cloves
crushed (optional)
2- Yj .pounds frying chicken
pieces
2 tablespoons melted butter
or margarine
Combine barbecue
sauce, sugar, lemon juice,
Worcestershire sauce and
garlic in bowl or measuring
cut. Place chicken, skin
side up in shallow baking
pan and brush with butter.
Bake at 375 degrees for
about 45 minutes or until
tender, basting frequently
with sauce. For browner
glaze, place in preheated
broiler for about 5 minutes.
Combine any remaining
sauce with pan drippings;
heat and serve with
chicken. Makes 4 servings.
Multiply recipe as needed.
Corn On The Cob
Allow 1-2 ears for each
saucepan, place corn ears.
Cover with cold, salted
water. Add a little milk to
sweeten the corn. When
the water boils, the can is
done.
Hot Or Cold Potato Salad
6 medium potatoes,
scrubbed
4 slices bacon, diced
‘/. cup chopped onion
% cup chopped celery
1 dill pickle, chopped
'/. cup water
'/i teaspoon dry mustard
'A teaspoor sugar
‘A cup vinegar
‘/b teaspoon paprika
Cook potatoes in
boding salted water until
tender. Drain; peel. While
still hot, cut into slices. Put
in bowl; keep warm.
Meanwhile, cook bacon in
skillet for 4 minutes. Add
onion, celery and pickle,
saute until golden. Stir in
remaining ingredients,
bring to boil, pour over
potatoes; toss lightly.
Serve immediately for
hot salad, or let the salad
blend overnight in
refrigerator (or several
1 >urs) and serve it cold.
It’s delicious either way.
This recipe serves 6.

Joan Harrell, former

pay, she said.

Psi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. recently awarded academic scholarships to four Augusta
area high school seniors. Recipients of SSOO scholarships were: Christopher A.M. Maddox, a T.W. Josey High
School senior who plans to major in mechanical engineering at Morris Brown College Daniel W. Garnett, a
senior at North Augusta High School, who will matriculate at the University of South Carolina (Columbia),
majoring in physical education; Yewston N. Meyers 111, a Glenn Hills High School senior who will attend Ft.
Valley State College, majoring in law; Walter W. Woods, a senior at Lucy Laney High School, who will attend
Morris Brown College, majoring in chemical engineering.

But her words got no ink either. The person
least surprised by all of this is Charles Walker He
said in a prepared statement at the beginning of the
meeting that “when the innuendoes are cleared there
will be no story to that effect because the damage will
have been done. It is a deliberate attempt to impugn
the integrity of this commission and Charles W.
Walker.” Enough said.

station in Columbia, Mo.

Review during the summer
of 1979.
