A pre-med major,
Jackson is also a member of
the Clark College Jazz Or
chestra under the direction
of James Patterson. This
group is considered as one
of the finest jazz
organizations in the college
ranks. They have appeared
with a host of jazz greats
including: Illinois Jacquet,
Mary Lou Williams, Jimmy
Owens, and Charles
Tolliver. The group is

Youth
The Orchestra recently
performed with Dizzy
Gillespie and Jimmy Owens
at the New York (formerly
Newport) Jazz Festival at
Avery Fisher in the Lincoln
Center. Sarah Vaughn per
formed the second half of
the concert.
During the month of July
the group visited Paris and
Montreux. They also per
formed in Switzerland and
France.
Jackson is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Jackson Sr.
of 1609 Hilda Ave., and a
graduate of Richmond
Academy.

Hewitt Memorial Scholar
ship. This one year scholar
ship is awarded by the
Aiken TEC Student Chap
ter of the American
Welding Society.

BOOK FAlß—During the school year, the
W.S. Hornsby Elementary School sponsored a
Book Fair. The class that had the largest percen
tage of participation got the opportunity to select
the king and queen.
This year the honor went to Mrs. M. Thom
pson’s 3A class.
