All whites not racist
This fall on television,
Tony Brown’s Journal will
give the viewer another
glimpse into the magical
union of computer
technology and television.
Tony Brown journeyed to
Cincinnati, Ohio once again
to use the Warner Amex
QUBE two-way, talk-back
system.
“Racist/Racism Or Anti-
Racist/Racism?” takes a
look at the volatile issue of
racial attitudes and what it
is like being white in
America.
Televised nationally on
public television (PBS), the
program will be seen in this
area on Channel 20 at 5
p.m., Oct. 10.
At the beginning of the
program, Tony Brown
polled the mostly white
QUBE audience—69 per
cent white; 31 percent
black—in Cincinnati on the
question: “Are all whites
racist?” An overwhelming
majority—Bs percent—
responded “no.” None said
“yes.”
The author of The Red
neck Way of Knowledge
(Knopf), Blanche McCrary
Boyd, has crusaded against
racial discrimination by ex
posing her own personal
experiences. She believes
that all whites suffer from a
“passive or inadvertent
racism.”
In an extensive article in
the New York Village
Voice, Boyd candidly
described her segregated
South Carolina upbringing
and how she has fought
against the racial attitudes
that have shaped her life.
She says racism is
ignorance and blames it for
destroying, in part, the
women’s movement. Ac
cording to the former
female activist, white
feminists assumed that they
were the leaders and that
black and white sexual
discrimination experiences
were identical. “Black
feminists tended to identify
with and sympathize
with their men, which was a
source of irritation. White

says Boyd.

CSRA Business League gets SIOO,OOO
Will start
revolving
loan fund
Mayor Edward M. Mcln
tyre Tuesday signed a con
tract awarding the CSRA
Business League SIOO,OOO
from the city’s Office of
Economic Development.
Harvey Johnson,
executive director of the
Business League, said the
grant puts the league in the
most workable position in
its 12-year history. “The
struggle has been laborious
and sometimes
abysmal...but where there
is no struggle, there is no
progress,” he said, adding
that part of the money will
be used to start a revolving
loan fund.
The league nearly had to
close its doors last year
when federal funds for the
league were cut off.
The plan on which the
award was developed was
prepared in conjunction
with the Small Business
Center at the University of
Georgia. LeQuita Booth,
