Removing false images to see the true church
by Bro. R. Williams
The church is not a
human institution. No man
ever dreamed up the chur
ch, or laid out the plan on
an architect’s drawing
board.
The church was born in
the mind of God; the great
Architect of the universe is
the Architect and the
builder is Jesus Christ.
Most people regard the
church as just another
social unit developed by
man. They put it in the
same category with frater
nities, clubs, unions,
political parties which will
sooner or later die. The true
church is not like these
organizations. It was not
begun by man; it is not
manipulated by man, and it
"He showed me the river of the water of
life...flowing from the throne of God. ”
—Revelation 22:1
1— God guides. With all
of the seeming uncertainties
we face in life, we need to
know that we have a guide
in Jesus. God shows us the
way. God points our lives
carelessly to “greater
things”.
2 God’s store is unend
ing. God takes us to the
source of good, to His own
life. “He showed me the
river of the water of life.”

The never-ending stream
of God’s mercies is por

by Hugh Stowell entitled,
“From Every Stormy Wind
That Blows.” God’s mercy
seat is seen as the fountain
of every grace the human
heart may need to be
assured of overcoming
power. The hymn was writ
ten in 1828.
From every stormy wind
that blows,
From every swelling tide
of woes,
There is a calm, a sure
retreat;
‘Tis found beneath the

11:00 a.m. “An Hour With God '
will never die (Daniel 2:44).
It belongs to Christ and
not to Martin Luther, John
Calvin, John Wesley, etc.
(Acts 20:28). When the
angel shall declare that time
shall be no more and eter
nity rolls on and on, the
church of Christ will live
on.
When Time Square has
tumbled down to the
ground, the church will be
alive. When mountains are
turned upside down and the
moon is turned into blood,
the church will be alive.
This cannot be said truth
fully of any denomination
(Matthew 15:13).
The church is an in
dispensable part of man’s
salvation. There are those
today who say, “Preach
sharing of alfthat we have.
All that we have is Theirs.
That is the way God dears
with us.
3 God shares His
storehouse. “Mi casa, su
casa,” so the Hispanics are
fond of saying. All that
flows from the very throne
of God is ours. “My store
house is your possession,”
so God says in effect to us.
“Eye has not seen...what
God has in store for us.”
Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on
our heads,
A place than all beside
more sweet;
It is the blessed mercy-seat.
There, there on eagle-
wings we soar,
And time and sense seem
all no more;
And heaven comes down,
our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the
mercy-seat.
We experience God’s
fountain of mercy best of
all in God’s church. Do
you attend and tithe to
your church each week?
