Lena Horne tells why she cancelled show in Dallas
The producers of “Lena

Music” and Miss Home’s
personal management an
nounced that they are can

winning show’s upcoming
Dallas, engagement
following a storm of con
troversary involving
Dallas’s Majestic Theatre
and a local black politican.
Dallas’s Majestic theatre
is an elegant, old vaudeville
house that was bought by
the city and renovated at a
cost of $3 million. The
theatre planned to reopen in
January with “Lena Home:
The Lady and Her Music”
as its first presentation.

Reports were confusing

time that her mother and

planned to marry Kevin

Miss Horne’s solo show is
currently selling out on its
national tour following a
record making 14-month
run on Broadway.
Miss Horne’s opening
night in Dallas was planned
by the Majestic as a gala
charity event with proceeds
going to “Action -for
Cultural Arts” which
promotes arts in the city.
Ticket prices were announ

When the announcement
was made of the opening

recordings as music

producer. Her last two
albums after the breakup,
“Happy Love” released in
1980 and “Don’t Look
Back” released in 1981, did
not sell well.
Music industry insiders
say that her frustration with
Capitol Records and the
fact that her singing career
was not going the way she
wanted it to led her to sign
with Epic Records early this
year.
