growth of his son as he
begins to move outside his
home into the world of
peers and adults,” accor
ding to Dr. Herbert
Ashline, liaison officer for
the YMCA.
The program emphasizes
the “vital role that fathers
play in the growth and
development of their sons,”
Ashline said, adding that
daughters can also par-
ticipate, and in the case of
single-parent homes,
mothers can join.
The Y-Guides and
Trailblazers are divided into
“tribes” of 6 to 9 father
and son teams, which meet
bi-weekly in the homes of
members. Activities include
games, songs, crafts,
stories, outings and special
events planned by the tribe.
