But God has the right
to change his own law.
There are three great
dispensations or laws in
the Bible.
The first was the
Patriarchal which was
from Adam to Moses,
largely covered by the
book of Genesis. This
was a family religion and
the father or head of the
house was the officiating
priest to offer sacrifice
for himself and his
family.
This age continued
about 2500 years.
The next was the
Jewish Age from Moses
to Christ, a period of
some 1500. This age
began with the giving of
the Law of Moses at
Mount Sinai and covered
most of the Old Test
ment from Exodus 20. It
was not a family system
of religion, but a
national system with
Jerusalem as the place
for worship. This age
ended at the cross.
And the last, the
Christian Age, went in
force under the great
commission after the
cross on Pentecost of
Acts 2, and nas already
lasted more than 1900
years, and will continue
tn the end of the world.
Os course, we live un
der this last age and are
not living under either of
the former dispen
sations. Paul says, “Ye
are not under tne law,
but under grace.” (Rom.
6:14) John says, “The
law was given by Moses,
but grace and truth came
oy Jesus Christ (Jn.
1:17).
“God, who at sundry
times and in divers man
ners spake in time past
unto the fathers by the
prophets, hath in these
last days spoken unto us
by his Son. (Heb. 1:1-

Rightly dividing the word
2).”
The Son now has all
power and authority in
heaven and in earth
(Matt. 28:18). We must
now hear him. When
Peter wanted to put
Jesus down on a par with
Moses and Elias, God
said, “This is my
beloved Son, in whom I
am well pleased; hear ye
him (Matt. 17 :5).
Though the Old
Testament is inspired
and is a part of the word
of God, we are not under
it as a system of religion.
Christ died to deliver
us from the law, “blot
ting out the handwriting
of ordinances that was
against us, which was
contrary to us, and took
it out of the way, nailing
it to his cross (Col. 2:14).
Yes, it has been blotted
out and taken out of the
way, so he could become
the mediator of the New
Testament (Heb. 9:15).
And the New Testament
is not an afterthought
with God, for he
foretold by the prophets
that he would make this
new covenant (Jer.
31:31-34; Heb. 8:6-13).
Christ broke down the
middle wall of partition
between Jew and Gentile
by abolishing the old law
of commandments and
we now have a new law
with new commandmen
ts. As I have already
said, some of the com
mandments of the New
Testament were once
bound on the people in
the Old Testment, but we
keep them now because
they are in the Old
Testament. If the Old
Testament law were still
binding, Jews and Gen
tiles would have to be
separated now, as back
under the law (Eph.
2:14-16).
There are many
Judaizers today. Some

NUMERO ‘UNO’ IN VOLLEYBALL—The Mt. Calvary Baptist Church volleyball team,
under the leadership and coaching of Recreation Director Larry Williams, completed the
season with a 24-12 record.
The church’s recreation department was organized in 1978 by Pastor Clyde Hill, Sr.
However, additional momentum was gained after an all-male softball team last year was for
med.
On the first row above are (from left) are team member, Janice and Jackie Middlebrook,
Christopher Leslie, Melita McGahee, Eula Chestnut; 2nd row, Larry Williams, Larry
Walker, Donald Dawson and Victon Wheeler. Not pictured are Ernest Tolbert and Easter
Bell Tubman.
The team competed in several games with Broadway Baptist Church, First Mt. Moriah and
the D’Antignac Street Church of Christ.
