USFL had
excellent year
This weekend will
mark the end of the first
season of the United
States Football League.
Critics will once again try
to determine the fate or
fortune of the USFL.
It is my opinion the
USFL had an excellent
year. No, I’m not crazy!
I’ll bet the NFL wished a
thousand times they had
had the same kind of
beginning. When skeptics
heard about the new
league, they immediately
started making com
parisons to the now
defunct World Football
League. No comparison!
First, the USFL
established itself by
signing some of the top
college prospects in the
country; they set up fran
chises in already
established cities, and the
clincher being a two-year

Whether they were suc
cessful at the gate, the
jury is still out. None the
less, the first year has to
be considered a success.
However, the future of
the new football league is
still in question. I don’t
know about you, but
watching football year
round is not going to
work. I need that off
season; it makes me thir
sty for the next one. In
the future the USFL must
make a decision because
the fans are going to
demand one. Unfor

conditioned to watch
football in the fall,
basketball the winter, and
baseball in the spring and
summer.
