Eddie Murphy
inks sls million
movie pact
Eddie Murphy, one of
the hottest men in show
business with a string of
triumphs that could turn
many veteran entertainers
green with envy, is
featured in October’s
Ebony.
The talented 22-year
old is enjoying a four fold
success in movies,
television, concert hall
performances, and recor
ds. He first came to
national attention in 1980
on TV’s “Saturday Night
Live,” and he’s been
busy ever since.
This year alone he’s
done a 30-show concert
tour, recorded two
comedy albums, taped a
stand-up routine for
Home Box Office, and
co-hosted the Emmy
Awards. Murphy’s
greatest acclaim appears
to be in movie roles that
were created for his idol
Richard Pryor. His per
formances in the box of
fice smash hits “48 Hrs.”
and “Trading Places”

Husband, wife
shot in dispute
An Augusta woman
and her estranged
husband were shot at her
home after a scuffle
developed when she
found him with another
woman.
Mrs. Martha B.
Owens, 1465 Tobias
Court, said that she had
discovered her husband,
Alvester Owens of 2033
Olive Road, with another
woman on Kent Street,
and they had gotten into
a scuffle. The scuffle was
broken up by the arrival
of James Roy Nelson Jr.,
1339 Steed St., who then
took Mrs. Owens back to
her home.
Mrs. Owens, 29, said
that while she and Nelson
were discussing her going
to his house for the night
to avoid any further
trouble with her husband,
Owens drove up and
jumped out of his car and
began pointing a
shotgun, threatening to
kill the both of them, ac
cording to police report.
As Mrs. Owens and
Nelson ran into the
house, Owens fired the
shotgun. A few minutes
later he came up to the
house and began firing
