SIOO,OOO and you sense
that everything will run
smoothly from now on.
Right?
Wrong. You are
rapidly approaching, or
have already reached the
50 percent tax bracket
and unless you have a
sound financial plan, 50
percent of your hard
earned income is exactly
what you’ll pay.
On the average, you
work 50 weeks, 250 days
and 2000 hours to earn
your ,SIOO,OOO-plus in
come. What can you do
to increase your net in
come? Is it possible to
decrease taxes, or to
somehow replace the loss
generated by those taxes?
Because of your in
come level, one of the fir
st areas you may want to
look at is tax reduction.
In order to make your
money work in mutual
funds, precious metals,
bonds or real estate, the
capital must be available,
and it won’t be if Uncle
Sam has already break
fasted on it.
The first step, may be
to take a serious look at
your personal files and
accounts. Receipts
provide the key for
deductible outlay. Take
the time to separate these
into files or envelopes ac
cording to type of expen
diture. If you start right
now, at year’s end, the
task need not be over
whelming. Your savings
may be.
Don’t overlook
business deductions. You

“The genius of the

The choir is under the

Travel, entertainment
and depreciation of
equipment such as per
sonal auto or a personal
computer, may all
provide sizable deduc
tions. Use them.
Once your personal
records are in order, you
may wish to advance to a
second strategy. Have
you thought about
buying needed new
equipment now rather
than waiting until
January or February ? If
you do (assuming you are
in the 50 percent tax
bracket —$109,400 com
bined income) such pur
chase will decrease taxes
by 17 and a half percent of
the cost of the equip
ment.
For examle, if you buy
$20,000 worth of equip
ment in December, you
can still take depreciation
of $3,000 this year (worth
$1,500 in your bracket).
Adding the 10 percent tax
credit of $2,000 means
that your $20,000 equip
ment in December has cut
your 1983 tax bill by
$3,500.
Even if you are not in
the 50 percent tax |
bracket, the suggestions
apply. Increasing your
net income may be even
more critical for you.
A certified public ac
countant, CPA, is very
important to you. Due to
the source and level of
your income, trying to
complete your own tax
return is like trying to be
your own attorney in a
court of law. Let the tax
specialist handle it so
you. The savings can be
tremendous.
Also, spend a few two
hour sessions with a
financial planner, either
quarterly or semi
annually, and realize as
much as $50,000— through
tax savings, better yields
and tax-favored invest
ments. You might cush
ion your entire tax
crunch.
