The Augusta News-Review February 18,1984 by Bro. R. Williams The central theological question related to the problem of abortion is whether the unborn fetus is a living person with full rights of life. These are at least five views: Human life begins (1) at the, moment of conception, (2) when life or “quickening” is felt by the mother, (3) when the fetus could survive out side the mother’s womb —about seven Yvonne Shaw Womens ’ Day speaker Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church in Waynesboro will observe Women’s Day Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. The speaker will be Mrs.. Numerous penetrating questions are let loose on this subject. Is a non viable fetus more valuable that the other children who demand a mother’s attention? Is termination of a pregnancy preferable to bringing a child into what has little chance of being a happy life? Is it even fair to compel it to stay nine months in the womb Mrs. Shaw has taught in the Richmond County School system for a num ber of years, serving as girls’ basketball coach, a guidance counselor, and a physical education and health teacher. She was formerly an assistant principal at Langford Middle School. Presently, she is an assistant principal at Sego Middle School. Married to Dr. A. Do we have the right to force a woman who has gone through the horrible experience of being raped to bear in her body for nine months a growing reminder of that horror? Is the fetus a blob of tissue? These are in teresting questions, but let us get down to the Yvonne Shaw Winter revival The Annual Winter Revival of the Good Hope Baptist Church, 1042 13th St., will be held Feb. 27 through March 2. Let us check out the Bible concerning this question. David did not think of humanity as tied to the moment of birth; listen to his own words.: For thou has possessed my reins: thou has covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonder fully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curioiusly wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. (Psalm 139:13-15). Job gives more evidence about life in the womb: Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb? (Job 31:15). Dr. Luke informs us that John the Baptist leaped in his mother’s womb: And it came to pass, that, when Elizabeth leaped in his mother’s Dr. Luke informs us that John the Baptist leaped in his mother’s womb: And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: (Luke 1:41). These passages indicate that life begins in the womb and not at birth. If there is no life there, what is everyone so concerned about destroying. Life is a gift from God. Paul rot AU OCCASIONS Blossom House International 1816 Wrightsboro Road 738-1439 says, “He giveth life and breath to all things” (Ac ts 17:25). Ringing throughout the Bible is the divine injunction, “Thou shalt not kill” (Romans 13:9). Irresponsible pregnan cies will increase when there is no respect for human life. It is stated that 70 percent of all who have abortions are unwed mothers. Unmarried couples selfishly indulge in sexual pleasure and then when pregnancy oc curs they want to destroy that life that would cause them embarrassment or some limitations. The same is true of some married professional women who choose to abort. We must teach people what God has to say con cerning the matter. We must teach young people and adults to honor the principles of sexual morality as taught by Jesus. Virtuous young people and adults who abstain from sex until marriage are never faced with the decision about abortion. God’s way is the best way. We must stay with God regardless of what the population and societal experts tell us what is necessary to attain a true quality of life. If you stay SUPPORT SCLC Attend the church of your choice.
