Remembrance of unfaithfulness
His name is Licen
tiousness. There is only
one way this evil should
be met—that is with fair
ness to all and favors to
none. 1 think human
society a little biased on
this subject. Its members
seem to see evils in some
people which are entirely
overlooked in others, in
my mind women and men
stand upon the same
footing before the
righteous tribunal above;
but society gives to men a
license which women
cannot hope for. A man
can commit sin and go
unpunished, but the
woman who is accessory
to the same offense, must
be pursued to the grave
by the hounds of public
censure. While he is
allowed to maintain the
highest place in society,
and associate with those
whose characters are
above reproach, the
woman, his dupe, is for
ced to take the back seat
and wear all her life her
badge of disgrace. Even
some of the best women
will seek the company of
this man who is a fugitive
from justice, and
welcome him to their cir
cle of society from which
they have excluded their
outraged sister. But
before heaven’s God,
Tamar and Judh stand
alike sinners.
As long as society thus
lends its stympathy, and
knights a man as the hero
in the field of moral
depredation and
woman’s ourtrage, and
applauds him as he retur
ns from this moral but
chery, with the bleeding
scalp of a woman at his
side, as one who has
gained a glorious victory
, in some righteous war
fare, we may expect this
evil to go unchecked. But
remember that the family
circle is the corner-stone
of human society. It is the
great neutralizer or
assimilating influence
which brings together the
heterogeneous elements
of which society is com
posed. From this tree, the
brance is taken which
sweetens the bitter waters
of Marah. Too much at
tention, therefore, cannot
be given to the character
of these streams which
are to flow out and com
mingle with the great
ocean of human sociey,
where it must either sub
due the noxious elements
found in its new range, or
lose its own inherent
purity.
Physical deformity, or
pinching poverty, is no

Girls, you may honor

dishonor your mother by
choosing a neighbor as

Believe me, there may be
women on earth better

have traveled and seen

woman on earth who
loves you more tenderly,

desires your happiness,
than she. There is no one

with more solicitude than
your faithful mother.
Dear children, honor the
faithfulness of your

But the best oppor
