by Bro. Richard Williams I would protect my Christian influence as a priceless jewel. In order to accomplish this, you will have to guard very carefully the company that you keep, and especially your close associates. To do this, you will have to learn to say no and to say yes at the right time. Learn to say these wor ds with no apologies. “Be not deceived: evil com munications corrupt good man ners” (I Corinthians 15:33). A young man told his minister, “I have been in college nearly four years. Now I am about to graduate in three weeks. Since I have been here, I have run with the crowd that made fun of Christianity. I have not only run with the crowd that did that, but I have done my part in it too. Six weeks ago, I began to thing about graduation and going out in to some community. I asked myself if I could afford to take my living into a community. It was then that I decided to pick out some young people on the college campus and watch their lives for a time. I picked out eight college students who are members of your church. I observed them as closely as possible; not one of them knew it. After observing their speech, con duct, interests, 1 have come to tell you that they knocked all the props out from under me, and I want tc ask you to tell me how to get whal they have. That minister told him what to do to be saved, and during the evening service, he became a Christian. Shortly thereafter, he went to the battle field overseas. A few months later, the lady where he had made him home while in college, called the minister. She was weeping as she said, “I have just received word that Ivan has fallen in battle..” Can you imagine what thoughts rushed through the minister’s mind—what if some of those young peopl whom he was wat ching hand not guarded their Christian influence? If they had not been true, perhaps Ivan would have died lost. Oh young people, you can dance at every dance, dress like pimps, pushers and hot pants Jezebels, go to the night-spots and drink happy juice, but you will not influence other young people to become Christians. If I were a youth again, I would protect my Christian in fluence as a priceless jewel. I Would Not Destroy My Life With Dope A tragic, twisted re-wording of the twenty-third Psalm was found in a closed car in Reidsville, North Carolina, beside a dead heroin ad dict. She was twenty-three years old. Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr., of girl’s message in the Congressional Record. It reads thusly: King Heroin is my shepherd, I shall always weant. He makes me to lie down in the gutters. He leadeth me beside the troubled waters, he destroyeth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of wickedness. Yea, I shall walk through the valley of poverty and Two evils from page 4 and Senator Gary Hart would have conceded the Democratic nomination for president to the Rev. Jesse Jackson. The current president and vice-president could then move to endorse brother Jackson by not campaigning against him. However, the only choice left for Blacks, is to vote against the current president by voting for “take them for graned” Mondale, a white candidate who has failed to ganin any significant Black sup port thus far. Neither the Democrats or Republicans have any genuine respect for Black voters. Perhaps it is time to form a Black political party to support those who support our goals and progress. SUPPORT SCLC If I were a youth again wil fear no evil, for thou, Heroin, art with me. Thy Needle and Capsule com fort me. Thou strippest the table of groceries in the presence of my family. Thou robbest my head of reason. My cup of Sorrow runneth over. Surely heroin addiction shall stalk me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the House of the Dammed forever Found in the car with a dead woman was this written message; “Jail didn’t cure me. Nor did hospitalization help me for long. The doctor told my family it would have been better and indeed kin der, if the person who got me hooked on dope had taken a gun and blown my brains out. And I wish to God he had. My God, how I wish it.” Marijuana looks innocent and goes by very innocent names like “tea” or “Mary Jane.” But Mary Jane is no innocent little lady. She is a sneaky doll who has started Rev, Tate to conduct revival at Providence An old fashion homecoming service will be held at the Second Providence Baptist Chruch on Summerhill Road in North Augusta on Sunday, Aug 12, at 2 p.m. The Rev. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s (I Corinthians 6:19,20). If I were a youth again, I would not destroy my life with dope. Anyone who uses dope is a dope. You don’t hear me. Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick, the greater preacher of Rockefeller’s church in New York City, said that he suffered a state of depression and almost lost his mind. One day while shaving in the bathroom, he had drawn his razor to cut his own throat. When his father saw him, he said, “Harry, don’t do that!” Those words, “Don’t do that,” motivated himself to get himself together. If you are not a Christian, why not let Jesus into your heart right now. You can by believing in Jesus who died for your sins, repenting of your past sins, confessing with your mouth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and being buried in water baptism for the remission of your sins.
