Butler, daughter ot Dr. and Mrs. Charles L. Butler of Augusta, recently left for Nairobi, Kenya, in East Africa. She will be working there with the Youth Ministries of Beulah Tabernacle Church, Hampton, Va. Miss Butler, a member of the 1970 class of T.W. Josey High School, is a registered nurse, and a 1974 honor graduate of Hampton Institute. She received the master of scien ce degree in nursing from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., in 1977. The Augusta Chapter of Links includes a group of 30 members. - v Bf * - 4 Er i Georgene Butler The chapter engages in many ac tivities which contribute to the cultural and educational enrich ment of the Augusta community. Links projects during 1984 have included the distribution of lap blankets to senior citizens, a series of workshops for children on “Good Manners for Today,” donation of children’s books to community centers, and a Black History Week program which featured local artists. The Augusta Chapter also an nually contributes more than SSOO to the Links National Grant-in-Aid program. Through this program. Links, Inc. has contributed more than one million dollars to the United Negro College Fund. Officers of the Augusta Chapter of Links, in addition to the president, include: Judy Carter, recording secretary; Anne Brown, corresponding secretary; and Ber nice Griffin, treasurer. Pendergrass bouncing back Talented singer Teddy Pen dergrass is looking good and soun ding good as he bounces back from the automobile accident that left him paralyzed, reports the Sep tember EBONY. The tragic March 1982 accident broke his neck and left him a quadriplegic confirmed to a wheelchair. In spite of the trauma, Pendergrass maintains a positive attitude, saying he is “not sick, just handicapped.” Pendergrass also says he thanks God for “leaving me with four vital organs in good working or der-my brain, my voice, my heart...and down th?r»» ” Always a shrewd investor, Pen dergrass has used the past two and-one-half years to increase his business holdings and further his education. Although the mental anguish and the pain associated with physical therapy have sometimes been intense, Pen dergrass has found a renewed inner strength in his relationship with God. He is also active as a spokesman for paralysis victims. With her past group, she sold close to 500,000 albums and was praised by the Los Angeles Times for “imagination, wit and un derstated virtuosity.” But who is this mysterious vixen? It’s Vanity—formerly of Vanity 6 —who has been quietly working for the last six months on her first solo album. Wolfer, producer of Shalamar’s Dancing In The Sheets, who’s known for his keyboard work with Stevie Wonder and the Jacksons. Says Vanity, “I come up with a title and a feel for a song. I give it to Bill, and he comes up with a rythm track. Then I write the melody and the lyrics.” How do other male musicians feel about Wolfer’s collaboration with Vanity? Jealous!
