NAACP honors local citizens
J Philip Waring, News-Review columnist and president of the Augusta Black History Committee, was
honored along with three other persons at the NAACP’s Martin Luther King Freedom Banquet Tuesday night
at the Hilton Hotel.
Waring was cited for his support of the NAACP and the Augusta community.
Dr. C. S. Hamilton received an award for “service rendered the NAACP”. Bathine Hollins received a plaque
for distinguished service in music, and outgoing NAACP President Otis Smith was recognized for outstanding
leadership.

Applications sought
for senior services
Applications are now being ac
cepted by the CSRA Agency on
Aging for funds to provide services
to persons 60 years of age and
older in the nutrition, homemaker
aide, transportation, day care,
outreach services, friendly visiting,
senior centers, ombudsman, legal
services, psychotherapyand lifeline
programs, and in new services as
well.
The Nutrition Program for the
•elderly is aimed at providing a hot
nutritious meal five days a week
for senior citizens in a group set
ting or home-delivered. The
Homemaker Aide and/or Chore
-Service Program is designed to
maintain and strengthen the
capacity of individuals who,
because of frailty or other con
ditions, are unable to care for
themselves or function in their
homes or in the most independent
situations possible.
The Transportation Program is
design to transport the elderly to
and from community facilities and
resources for applying and
receiving services, reducing
isolation or otherwise promoting
independent living. The Legal
Service Program assists the elderly
in advancing or protecting the legal
rights, benefits, and entitlements
of the elderly.
The Ombudsman Program
provides information and/or assist
in resolving problems or complain
ts of residents of long-term care
facilities.
The Outreach Services provide
search and find activities to iden
tify hard to reach individuals, and
to make them aware of needed ser
vices. The Day Care for Adults
Service provide adults with per
sonal care in a protective setting
outside their own homes during a
portion of a 24-hour day.
The Friendly Visiting Program is
designed to provided regular social
contacts to persons who are
socially or geographically isolated.
The Psychotherapy Services
Program provides counseling to
assist persons in resolving
problems affecting health and
welfare including legal matters.
Lastly, the Lifeline Program
provides a direct line for the
elderly with a local hospital.

the Antioch Baptist Church,
located at the corner of Florence
Street and Augusta Avenue, will
observe their 14th Choir anniver
sary on Feb. 3, at 6 p.m. at the

The cadets of T.W. Josey
AFROTC will solicit funds for the
annual Mother’s March of Dimes
for Birth Defects on Jan. 20, 1985
between the hours of 1-3 p.m. in
the vicinity of T.W. Josey School.
This is a part of the nationwide
campaign for Birth Defects.
