BLOWING HOT AND COLD
Just when the Braves look as if they have a streak going that
would take them further up the standings in the Western Division
of the National League, everything goes wrong. It’s then that the
team plays like everything but a majoi league team. Consistency
just has not been their forte this season.
A few weeks ago with timely hitting and pretty good pitching,
the team was within seven games of the recently stumbling SF
• Giants. Again they couldn’t hold on to the pace as the pitchers
became ineffective, both starters and the bull-pen crew-even Cecil
Upshaw.
With the football season almost here, Lum Harris has got to get
the Braves going at a pretty winning pace if the front office
expects the fans to turn out to Atlanta Stadium during the last
month of the season. Only a winning baseball team can draw the
fans when both pro, college and high school football are just
around the corner.
BOOZER STREAKS
Emerson Boozer, Augusta’s gift to the New York Jets, did his
“thing” real well last week as his Jets laid it on the once proud
New York Giants, 27-14. His running was very much a part of the
Jets vaunted offense which resulted in two touchdowns by the ex
Lucy Laney star and some fancy running to set up another score.
With Joe Namath out for just about all of the ’7l season,
Boozer’s performance had to be most pleasing to Jets Coach,
Weeb Eubanks. No doubt he forsees, barring injury, a running
attack that will more than compensate for the loss of Namath.
This attack is expected to be furnished by Boozer, Matt Snell and
George Knock. However, there is still a question of Shell’s ability
to return to his pre-injury form. This will put Boozer in the
running-game spot-light with Knock giving excellent support.

State Investigation
Asked At Augusta
Med Center
University System
Chancellor George L. Simpson
has asked the Attorney
General’s office to investigate
allegations of waste and
mismanagement on
construction projects at the
Medical College of Georgia in
Augusta, it was learned
Wednesday.
And Sen. Ed Zipperer of
Savannah, Chairman of the
Senate University System
Committee, said his panel plans
to launch its own investigation
into misuse of labor and
materials in large scale
construction projects at the
College.
Another allegation that
Zipperer said he intends to
investigate is a charge that
some employes were required
to purchase $35 red blazers to
wear to a party at the College.
Atty. Gen. Arthur Bolton
confirmed that his office was
investigating some activities at
the College, but he refused to
elaborate.
Simpson confirmed that he
asked for the investigation
about six months ago after
receiving information from
some employes and former
employes of the college
concerning construction
contracts and missing state
construction material and
equipment.

DUPREE READIES WILDCATS
This week Dave Dupree has had his Lucy Laney gridders hard
at work rounding into shape for their season opener against the
T.W. Josey Eagles. Even though the Wildcats will be heavily
favored to defeat the Eagles, the affable Laney coach is not
taking any chances. He sees the Hank Daggett coached Eagles,
though under - manned, as everything but an easy task for his
1971 Wildcats.
The current Laney team has brought smiles from Dupree and
his assistants because graduation did not take a heavy toll. Most

of the 1970 line comprised 10th and 11th graders who this year
have the needed game experience... This applies to the offensive
and defensive line.
As for offensive and defensive backs, Dupree will have to
fashion some effective combinations. He lost in the backfield ida
graduation, but he will have some help coming in from the B
team and junior high graduates. They, along with the return! tig
backs, will man the fort behind the big Laney lines as the tea m
plays its grueling 1971 schedule.
The 1971 team will miss the likes of Doc Bonner, Horace
Howell and little Ricky Daggett, all graduated. But Laney will
again be a strong contender for the 4AAA crown this year.
