ALUMNI DOCTORATES RETURN TO PAINE

Nineteen Paine College
graduates who have earned
doctorate degrees will return to
the College this weekend (Nov.
5-6-7) for an in-depth look at
the future expansion of the
College.
This group of educators,
$2 MILLION IN BUILDING
SET AT PAINE
A $2 million building
program for the next 18
months has been approved by
the Paine College Board of
Trustees. At the same time, the
board adopted an operating
budget of $2,887,054 for the
coming year at the college.
The planned construction
program would include an
academic facility, enlargement
of the health and physical
education facilities, and
renovation of certain existing
buildings.
Meeting this past weekend,
the board approved a
recommendation that its
nomination committee seek
members to fill the five current

conduct meetings with
students, faculty and
administrative staff to review
the role and achievement of
Paine College for the past 90
years and the educational
vacancies which now exist on
the board, stipulating the
nominations be made at the
February board meeting.
The board also authorized
Paine College to support a
fund-raising effort of the Sixth
Episcopal District of the
C.M.E. Church, which is
expected to bring $25,000 to
the college during the month
of November.
The trustees approved a
resolution that the board
appoint a special task force to
work with the development
committee of Negro Colleges
Advance of Nashville, Tenn., a
national group working with
the United Methodist Church,

Other items on the agenda
for the weekend meeting
include discussions relating to
academic, economic and social
of which one of the directors is
Dr. E.C. Calhoun, former
president of Paine College.
In other action, the board
resolved to announce the
inauguration date of President
L.H. Pitts at its February
meeting, and approved a
suggested general outline for
the Founder’s Day 1972
program, naming Dr. J. T.
Lacey, acting dean of student
affairs, and S.M. Jenkins of the
board of trustees, as
co-chairman of the Founder’s
Day weekend
7O’s--A program in
development designed to reach
alumni, corporations,
foundations, individuals and
the Federal Government.
*A new focus on sponsored
programs in the following
areas, Special Education, Early
Childhood Education, Social
Work, Research, Foreign
Service Training, Government,
Related Employment and
Journalism.
Special conferences on Plant
Development and Faculty
Development will also take
place.
Interspersed with the work
sessions will be several brief
informal coffee gatherings and
evening parties.

Georgia. Enterprise Now Inc.,
is the first MESBIC to be based
in the deep South, providing
management of technical
assistance and long term
venture capital to minority
business.
