Stevenson in Chicago Record. CAR FARES IN GERMANY. The Method ot Collection and In. npectlon Prevent. Kree llldee. The cliuuccs of evading fares on the street ears of Ueriuau cities oro very slight. When a passenger steps on a cor, tho conductor Immediately asks whore he Is going and then prepares his ticket, which setwes also as a re ceipt for tho fare. The preparation of a ticket consists ouly In detaching It from a block and punching It or mark ing It with a pencil. This process Involves much more work than the simple process of ring- lug up the fares, as conductors do iu America, hut the tnsl: Is lightened by tho fact that only a certain number of porsbns are permitted to ride on a ear at the same time. The number of Bit ting and stnudlug places Is plainly marked on each ear. If a car Is de signed to carry 00 persons, no more than 30 persons will be permitted on that car nt the same time. When any thing In Germany Is forbidden, It Is settled once for nil. Iu order that every person who rides shall get tho prescribed ticket Inspect ors arc employed who spend their time In nsccrtululng whether tho conductors are doing tliolr duty. These Inspectors step Into tho ears and ask the pnssen- gers for their tickets. They note the number of tho tickets and whether they correspond with tho stubs retained by the conductor. Tho clerk who gives out the blocks of tickets to the con ductors notes tho number of the upper most ticket and at tho return of ench block collects from tho conductor who returned It ns many fares ns there are tickets detnehed. The rate of fnros varies from 2V4 cents to B, according to the distance. Small children are carried for one-half fare, nnd nny one for the sum of $2.B0 may secure n ticket which entitles him to rldo ns much ns he wishes for one month. When a car Is full, tho con ductor displays a placard henring the word “Occupied."—Chicago Record. MORGAN VALLEY ROTS. Mr. Joe Stokes wns in the Cedar City on business Thursday. Mrs. C. R.
