Mr. McDuffie Doyle, a clever
gentleman who formerly resided
here but is now in the lumber busi
ness at Fenn, Dooley county, was
here over Sunday. His family has
been Bpending the summer here and
at Rockmart and Grady, nnd they
all left tor home Tuesday.
Mrs. M. A. Booz and daughter,
Miss Elizabeth, arrived home Fri
day from an extended and pleasant
visit in Mexico and California. They
were the guests in -Mexico of Mr.
Tom Booz at Sahinal, Chihuahua,
where he is successfully engaged in
silver-mining; and in California they
visited Mr. Ben Booz, who has a re
sponsible nnd lucrative railroad post

Rev. J. F. Mixon, the honored
presiding elder of the Rome district,
filled the pulpit nt the Methodist
church Sunday, preaching a couple
of excelleut sermons. Monday
morning he held the fourth quarterly
conlerence,which showed the church
to bo in excellent condition in every
respect. Dr. Mixon was accom
panied by his wife, and they were
the guests while hero of Mr.and Mrs.
R. O. Pitts.
Rev. C. E. Cawthorne, of the A.
M. E. church, is closing a year of
excellent work here, and has won
the respect and confidence of the
white.people as well as of his own
race. He has been conservative in
his actions and gentlemanly in his
deportment, and his return tor an
other year is generally desired. He
respectfully asks his white as well as
colored friends to aid him in carry
ing a good financial report to his an
nual conference, which meets In
