BEST THINGS BKl'AN SAID.
In Mr. Bryan’s speeches in New
York Saturday night, the best things
he said were :—
"The Democratic party Is the con
servative party of today, the republi
can the revolutionary party.
“The Democratic party is defined
by time-honored principles, the repub
lican party is urging new experi
ments.
“1 call espeoial attention to tile fact
that the republicans In this campaign
have adopted three new and danger
ous theories. First, that industrial
despotism is wise; second, Mint n large
army is necessary, and third, that a
colonial policy is right.
“If tlie republicans tell me that the
Democratic Gcrmnns left the Demo
cratic party to save the gold standard,
I reply that they have oome back to
save the Declaration of Independence.
"It is more iinportnnt that wo shall
hnve n republic tlmn that we shall
have any particular kind of money
standard.
“Tile [upublican party is this day
willing tlmt the nation slinll sell its
birthright for a mess of commercial
pottage, and it is willing to innke the
trade without examining the pottage.
"Jefferson was an expansionist, but
notan imperialist. Jefferson took in
land, the republicans “take in” people.
“The republicans enrry the (lag and
leave the constitution, llcpublicnns
go on tlie theory Mint you cannot
stretch the constitution beyond the
United States, but you can spread the
President nil over tile world. Beware
of n President who is bigger than tile
constitution which created him; for
When a President once gets bigger,
tlmn the constitution there is no way
tostop'liim until it Is all President
and no constitution.
“I would a thousand Mines rather
the Democratic party would go down
to defeat, fighting on the dootrine
that government rests on the consent
of the governed, than win it by disre
garding that doctrine.
“I am nfraid the republicans are not
reading their Bible as muoh ns tliey
ought to. You can explain it this
way: The paper trust lias raised the
price of paper so high that people can
not afford to buy the Bible any more.
i “If you want to improve your party,
rebuke it. Make the rebuke so over
whelming that no party again in n
hundred years will overcome tile De
claration of Independence.”

Over-Work Weakens
Your Kidneys.
Unhealthy Kidneys Make Impure Blood.
All the blood in your body passes through
your kidneys once every three minutes.
The kidneys are your
blood purifiers, they fil
ler out the waste or
impurities In the blood,
if they are sick or out
of order, they fall to do
their work.
Pains, aches and rheu
matism come from ex
cess of uric add In the
blood, due to neglected
kidney trouble.
Kidney trouble causes quick or unsteady
heart beats, and makes one feel as though
they had tjeari trouble, because the heart Is
over-working In pumping thick, kidney-
poisoned blood through veins and arteries.
It used to be considered that only urinary
troubles were to be traced to the kidneys,
but now modern science proves that nearly
all constitutional diseases have their begin
ning in kidney trouble.
Ii you are sick you can make no mistake
by first doctoring your kidneys. The mild
and the extraordinary effect ol Dr. Kilmer’s
Swamp-Root, the great kidney remedy is
soon realized. It stands the highest for its
wonderful cures of the most distressing cases
and is sold on its merits
by ail druggists in fifty-

DEMOCRATIC MASS-MEETING.
Judgo Maddox Made a Splendid
Address Saturday.
Judge Maddox failed to re
ceive promptly the invitation of
Ool. J. K. Barton, president, of
the Bryan and Stevenson Club,
and hence there was a confusion
Saturday morning ns to the hour
for holding the Democratic mass
meeting.
The hour was originally lixed
for 10:80 o’clock, but, Judge Mad
dox could not, reach here until 12
o’clock, at which time a good
crowd assembled at tho Court,
House to hear this distinguished
Democrat. And they were well
repaid for coming.
Judge Maddox delivered a
splendid address, and made very
telling hits for Democracy.
He took up tho claim advanced
in some quarters that McKin
ley is entitled to credit for
the advanced price of cotton
this yeny, and effectually de
molished it by asking why lie
lias not done so during the pre
vious years of his administra
tion, and why he has now al
lowed the price to drop.
He handled the Porto Rican
infamy without gloves, and
pointed out, in unmistakable
terms the manner in which the
republicans have over-ridden the
constitution in following out this
policy of imperialism.
Judge Maddox was introduced
in highly complimentary terms
by Col. J. K. Barton. His-ad
dress was heartily appreciated,
and wns a vote-winner for Dem
ocracy.
The Seventh District has never
hnd a better Representative in
Congress than Judge Maddox,
and it will be the pleasure as
well as the “plain duty” of the
people of Polk to help make his
majority for re-election as large
as possible.
