A couple of cases (if scarlet fever
recently at the School for the Deaf
in Cave Spring have caused the
trustees to close the school lor a
month and send the children home,
in order to thoroughly fumigate the
buildings. Miss Della Harris, who
is one of the instructors in that last!

A very pretty band-stand is being
bullt-by the ladies of tho Park As
sociation on the park property at our
famous Big Spring, which will boon
attractive ornament and at the same
time a great convenience to park
visitors.
Everybody who visits CcdartoWn
Is taken to our splendid Big Spring,
and our town Is to ho congratulated
on tho enterprise and energy of the
ladies in inaugurating tho work of
Improving the adjacent park prop
erty.
The building Is octagonal in shape,
with square roof. It Is located on
tho north side of tho park, with
entrance from Wissuhickon avenue,
and has steps into tho park on the
opposite side. Seats are placed,
around tho interior ot tho structure,
making a good place for tho hand and
a pleasant place for visitors.
All who have not done so should
pay their subscriptions to the park
fund at once, ns it is needed right
now. Mrs. W. C. Bunn, president
of the Association, has tho list of
subscribers.
A neat fence will ho put around
the park, which is Intended solely
(or tho use of white peoplo, and rus
tic bridges will bo built and seats
placed in the pnrk, making it a
most Rttractlvo place.
ACCIDENT AT THE FURNACE
Whnt might have beon a very se
rious ncddonl occured at tho furnace
Monday evening. It was bad
enough, but no loss of life resulted,
which might easily hnvo happened
under the circumstances.
A car was being run down the
trestle to tho crusher, when it sud
denly left the track, taking a part of
tho trestle with it. Mr. Sherman
Stevenson was on the car, nnd lmd n
narrow escape from instant death,but
escaped with some painful bruises.
A negro ran tho wrong way to get
out of the wreck, nnd had both legs
hrokon just nbovo tho ankles. Tho
furnneo hud to bank lor about twelvo
hours while the wreck was being
cleared away nnd (he damage to tho
trestle repaired.
