SOUTH’S WEALTH IN COTTON.
The South’s cotton crop this
year will be worth from $450,-
000,000 to $500,000,000, against
an average of $800,000,000 of late
years, an increase of from $150,-
000,000 to $200,000,000. Includ
ing the seed, the value of the
•cotton crop will exceed $500,000,-
000.
Southern mills will consume
probably 1,750,000 bales, against
1,600,000 bales last year. This
cotton, which will cost Southern
mills about- $75,000,000 to $80,-
000,000, will in its manufactured
shape bo worth more than $225,-.
000,000, thus ndding $150,000,000
in the process of manufacture.
To this add an estimate of $100,-
000,000 as the value of cotton
seed oil, hulls, etc., and it is
found that- the cotton crop will
this year yield to the South the
following:
Cotton and seed - $500,000,000
Added value of cot
ton manufactured
in South - - - 150,000,000
Value of oil and of
hulls, cake, etc.,
for feeding - - 100,000,000
Total - - - $750,000,000
This is one of the many stories
—this one being worth $750,000,-
000—forming the foundations for
the South’s business structure.—

OUR COTTON RECEIPTS,
Lnst. Thursday was a record-
breaker in the cotton business for
Cedartown, and exactly 250 bales
were bought from wagons on the
streets. 1
Farmers came in enrly, nnd all
day the wagons crowded our
main thoroughfare. Bidding was
lively, nnd the price was 10 cents
a pound, which rose to 104 on
fancy grades.
Besides tho street, sales, several
hundred bales were shipped by
freight, from near-by points.
Tlte 250 bales, averaging nearly
$50 per bale, gladdened the
hearts of Polk county farmers,
nnd sent- a thrill of delight-
bounding through the avenues of
trade. Over $12,000 were turned
loose on the street, nnd trading
was lively and ilusli.
Cotton has been coming in for
several days at an unprecedented
rate, and the reserve stock at the
homes of the farmers is now be
ing thrown on the market.
