The South’s cotton crop this year will be worth from $450,- 000,000 to $500,000,000, against an average of $800,000,000 of late years, an increase of from $150,- 000,000 to $200,000,000. Includ ing the seed, the value of the •cotton crop will exceed $500,000,- 000. Southern mills will consume probably 1,750,000 bales, against 1,600,000 bales last year. This cotton, which will cost Southern mills about- $75,000,000 to $80,- 000,000, will in its manufactured shape bo worth more than $225,-. 000,000, thus ndding $150,000,000 in the process of manufacture. To this add an estimate of $100,- 000,000 as the value of cotton seed oil, hulls, etc., and it is found that- the cotton crop will this year yield to the South the following: Cotton and seed - $500,000,000 Added value of cot ton manufactured in South - - - 150,000,000 Value of oil and of hulls, cake, etc., for feeding - - 100,000,000 Total - - - $750,000,000 This is one of the many stories —this one being worth $750,000,- 000—forming the foundations for the South’s business structure.— Manufacturers’ Record. <■ President Kruger, of the late Transvaal Republic, lias fled to Europe to escape capture by the English forces. He is now in France, where lie is being re ceived with open arms and great ovations. Georgia is the eleventh state in population and tenth in the number of postollices. We have 2,704 offices, on which the gov ernment for all causes spends $1,314,030.25, or an average of 50 cents per capita yearly. The child labor bill was de feated in the House Tuesday by a vote of 104 to 50. This Legis lature evidently believes in let ting cotton factories come Sonth before attempting to regulate them. This decisive knock-out for labor legislation means that manufacturing industries in Georgia need not fear any hostile laws for years to come. Repre sentative J.
