The case of small-pox tlirce miles from Rookmart on the fnrm of Mr. W. T. Simpson should alarm no one. An old negro woman—Jane Dnvitte, or Rentz,—arrived from Arkansas Inst week and soon developed small-pox. Dr. D. M. Russell, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, took the case in hand, nnd has dealt promptly und effectually with the pn- tient. The old negro woman is doing well, has passed the oritloal stage, and is now sitting up well on the way to re covery. There is no need for alarm on the part of the public. Tho case is well in lmnd,nnd no danger will likely result from the spread of this oontn- gion. It sliould be remembered that the case is three miles in the country from Rookmart, and no one sliould enter tain the idea that there is any sort of danger in the town of Rookmart. The disposition of children largely depends upon health. If they are troubled with worms, they will be irritable, cross, feverish, nnd perhaps soriously siok. Ballenger, of Griflln, was the guest of Rookmart friends last week. Prof. Lundy Harris, who went from Piedmont Institute to Young Harris College a year ago, has resigned IiIb professorship and is assigned to minis terial work nt Qrovetowh. , Mr. W. A. Greer, of Noroross, was the guest of Mr. J. N. Hardage Inst week. Miss Bessie Morgan visited friends at Adairsville last week. Mr. Rufus Carmiohnel, of Hnralson county, has accepted a position in tile store of his brother, Mr. W. I. Car michael. Mr. and Mrs. E: A. Mr. Joe White is finishing a nice cottage on College street near the In stitute. wliioh will be ready for occu pancy by the first of January. On Marble street, whieh is tile main business thoroughfare of town, tile pnst year has witnessed many and sub stantial improvements. The new post- office building is of brink, and is a cozy home for Uncle Sam's news stand. Tile old Heaton store house has been so improved and overhauled that one now hardly recognizes in the hand some new bank building the former house. The bank is the pride of Rock- mart, furnishing ample onpitnl for tile business firms and enterprises, nnd has at its head Mr. Buel Stark as cash ier, a gentleman with experience nnd judgment, nnd Mr. James Heaton, assistant enshier, whose knowledge of men and whose good business standing give additional confidence to this financial institution. Messrs. 8nm Lee and W. M. Carlton have one of the best business houseB in town, and their new building adds much to the excellent appearance of the public square. Mr. A. H. Graefer, the popular grocer, tins enlarged and improved his building, besides adding to his fancy 6tock of goods. The big rook building of Mr. Jehu Hogue is nearing completion, and is one of the most desirable locations in town. McRae & Roberts will occupy it the first of January. The new chapel on tile grounds of Piedmont Institute is one of the new buildings to be erected in 1001. A lot of material is on the site, and the work on this enterprise will receive close at tention the first of the coming year. Mrs. E. B. Barber will vacate the Ballenger house near the Institute on ttie first of the month, and will go to the residence on Piedmont avenue oc cupied this year by the .family of Mr. •T. C. Crockett. The ole) warehouse building on the property of the Cedartown Ice Com pany is being moved to a position fronting on West avenue, and everys thing is in readiness for the new ice plant. The machinery for Ice miinufac- ture will be moved over from Car tersviile this week, and , the plant wilt be put in shape at once for the season of 1901. The two ice companies have come to an amicable arrangement for con solidation, as The Standard re cently outlined. Little Forest Pitts was right pain fully hurt last Tuesday while play ing on the grounds at the Public School building with other little girls. She was taken home in a buggy, but on investigation by Dr.J. A. Liddell, the injury was found to be of no serious nature.
