CEDARTOWN, GEORGIA. THURSDAY MORNING. JUNE 27, 1901.
NUMBER 20.
A DELIGHTFUL AFFAIR.
Pelvic Catarrh.
IT IS A PITY SO FEW WOMEM
" The reception tendered by Mrs. \Val-
AT6 Entirely Fl't‘e From ter Cheney and Miss Manor Holmes on
Friday afternoon and evening to the
charming honorees, Mrs. W. A. Chap
man, of Cedartown, and Miss Katherine
I’owell, of Newnan, was one of the very
delightful affairs of the week, and as a
point of brilliance in the social Arma
ment it is dimmed by no brighter light.
In honor of the occasion the home
was elaborately decorated in most per
fect taste with roses in the reception
hall, magnolias and asparagus ferns in
the parlors, and a great profusion of
sweet peas in the dining room.
The arrangement of the refreshment
room was unique and attractive. The
center table was a mirrored lake sur
rounded by a border of thousands of
sweet peas in every conceivable shade
from the oxblood to the daintiest shell-
pink. Above the table suspended from
the rose-shaded ohandelier was a basket
full of the same flowers, and above the
window rod gracefully festooned were
asparagus ferns. In this bower of
beauty was served cream and individual
cake.
The receiving party was unusually
haudsomly gowned. Mrs. Chapman was
most becomingly gowned in black
grenadine, white trimmings. — Rome

Everywhere the people, especially the
Women, are praising Peruna as a remedy
for all forms of catarrhal difficulties.
Roxa Tyler, Vice Prosidentof the Illi
nois Woman’s Alliance, writes from DIG
East Sixtieth street, Chicago, Ill.,the
following:
“During the past year I gradually lost
flesh ami strength until I was unable to
perform my work properly. I tried dif
ferent remedies, and finally Peruna was
suggested to me. It gave me new life
and strength. Icannotspcak too highly
The extreme sensitiveness of the mu
cous lining of every organ of a woman’s
body is well known to physicians. This
explains why, in part at least, so few
women are entirely free from catarrh,
Peruna cures catarrh wherever it is
located.

SORES AMD
ULCERS.
Sores and Ulcers never become chronle
unless the blood is in poor condition — is
sluggish, weak and unable to throw off
the poisons that accumulate in it. The
system must be relieved of the unhealthy
matter through the sore, and great danger
to life would follow should it heal before
the blood has been made pure and healthy
and all impurities eliminated from the sys
tem. S.S.S. begins the cure by first cleans
ing and invigorating the blood, building
up the general health and removing from
tfce system A OOMSTANT DRAIH
effi, “.musr. UPON THE SYSTEM.
When this has been accomplished the dis
charge gradually ceases, and the sore or
ulcer heals. It is the tendency of these old
indolent sores to grow worse and worse,
and eventually to destroy the bones. Local
applications, while soothing and to some
extent alleviate pain, cannot reach the seat
of the trouble. S. S. S. does, and no matter
how apparently hopeless your condition,
even though your constitution has broken
down, it will bring relief when nothing
else can. It supplies the rich, pure blood
necessary to heal the sore and nourish
the debilitated, diseased body.
Mr. J B Talbert. Lock Box 245,Winona. Miaa.,
aays : 1 Six years ago my leg from the knee to
the foot was one solid sore. Several physician!
treated me and I made two trips »o Hot Springs,
but found no relief. I was induced to try 8. S. 8 ,
and it made a complete cure. I have been a per-
fectly well man ever since/'
is the only purely veg-
^ etable blood purifier
known—contains no
poisonous minerals to
ruin the digestion and
add to, rather than relieve vour suffer
ings. If your flesh does not heal readily
when scratched, bruised or cut, vour blood
is in bad condition, and any ordinary sore
is apt to become chronic.
Send for our free book ami write our
physicians about your case. We make no
charge for this service.

RECEPTION THURSDAY MORNING
Mina Ruby Camp, of Atlanta, and
Miss Gussie Houseal, of Cedartown,
were the attractive guests of honor at
a morning reception on Thursday given
by Mrs. George Ramey.
The home was especially attractive in
its decorations for the festive occasion.
Out flowers were used in regal abund
ance and these many hued beauties
were thrown into relief by a collection
of green plants.
Delicious refreshments were served,
and an enjoyable morning added to the
list of pleasures of this season.
Misses Camp and Houseal received
the guests with a gracious, cordial
manner. Miss Houseal wore a white
embroidered swiss, charmingly fash
ioned over green. Mbs Camp waq
stylish in a blue foulard, white chiiTon

LETTER FROM IDAHO.
TRIBUTE FROM A FRIEND.
Dear Standard Through your col
umns 1 have just learned of the death
of Ham Davitto. ' I saw him first iu the
halls of Piedmont Institute ten years
ago. Our acquaintance grew into a true
and warm friendship. I have not seen
him in several years, but have watched
his noble life with muoh interest. A
month ago a young man in Rookmart
told me that Bam had eome home from
Arizona to die. How sad the words !
Dread consumption had fastened itself
upon him!
He was one of the best boyB I ever
knew. How gentlemanly and kind-
hearted ! He despised anything low,
little and mean. He had a contempt
for anything narrow and selfish. He
sincerely loved the true, the beautiful
and the good. I believe he lives today
where redeemed spirits wing their un
wearied flight fiom world to world to
do their Master’s will. 1 expect to see
him again, A. F. Nunn.

The many friends in this section of
Miss Sue Pittman will be interested in
the following extracts from a letter to
her brother, Mr. C. It. Pittman:—
Boise, Idaho, June 15, IDOL
Deak Charlie:—After you left mein
Chattanooga, I was a wee bit lonely,but
the novelty made me forget to be blue.
I was perfectly well all the time, and en
joyed all the changing scenes. Just be
fore we reached St. Louie, I decided we
had run up against the Pacific Ooean,
but the porter said, “We are crossing
the Mississippi river.” My! but it is a
grand old stream! From Kansas City
to Pueblo was the most pleasant part of
my trip from a social standpoint. There
were just abont half-a-dozen of ns on
the Pnllman, and we became pretty well
acquainted. The conductor was very
kind and nice about pointing out things
of interest to us, esi>ecially to me, as I
was about the greenest looking speci
men on board. There was nothing awe
inspiring about the scenery, but those
Kansas prairies were lovely—miles and
miles of mild-eyed cattle and graceful
horses leisurely grazing. It was a
peaceful, restful scene.
We had most a day in Pueblo on ac
count of a wash-out on the Denver Ar
Rio Grande. Pueblo is a lovely little
place. I shall never forget my first
glimpse of Pike’s Peak and other
snow-clad mountains. I can’t attempt
to describe the Rockies to you. You
have seen them and know something
about how the imagination is staggered
and the mind worried with the effort to
comprehend the sublimity of the scene.
I sat and gazed in silent awe while we
were passing through the Royal Gorge
in the Grand Canon of the Arkansas.
What a stupendous upheaval there
must have been geologic ages past.
That scene will remain with me always.
All through Utah up to Halt Lake
there are bits of pretty scenery. We
stayed quite a while in Ogden. We had
hoped to have our stop-over in Suit
Lake City. Cl could see the Morraoij
Temple from my car window.) Ogden
is a nice place. We took in most o^
the city on street cars. I didn’t see any
real dreary country until we reached
Poaatella, Idaho. My! the country is
horrid from there to Nanpa, where we
leave the Union Pacific—nothing but
sage brush and bare rocks.
Boise well deserves the name of beau
tiful, and I am more than charmed
with it.
With love to all, I am as ever yours,
Sue E. V. Pittman.
