Tile Cedartown RlfleH were hand somely entertained last Friday even ing at the Armory at a big barbecue given by Capt. W. H. Trawlck, the popular head of that Bplendtd organi zation. Mr. J. T. Garrard was the barbecue artist, and the stew and meats were as fine as ever tickled the palate of an epicure. It Is a matter of great gratification to our people that the Cedartown Rif les, who are Just winding up the third year of their enlistment, will continue lh the service for another three years. Most of the young men have re-en- llstod, and quite a number of others have Joined, giving the company Its full quota required by the national guard regulations. After the 'cue Friday evonlng the Rifles gave an excellent drill. They came out of the recent rigid lnspec tlon by the army officers with fly ing colors, and were favored with special complimentary mention in the official report. At the animal meeting of the Ma sonic Grand Lodge in Macon last week, there was a complete change of the high officials of the order. ' Hon T. If. Jeffries, of Atlanta, was elect ed as Grand Master to succeed Judge Max Meyorhardt, of Rome, and the new Grand Master appointed Dr. W. G. England, of this place, as Grand Marshal. Dr. England Is a Fast Master of Caledonia Lodge and Past High Priest of Adoniram Chapter, and Is one of the most prominent Masons* in the state. Cedartown Masons are happy over the recognition thus given the local lodge by this appointment, and are congratulating Dr. England on hls 11-deserved honor. The business men responded nobly to the enterprise, donating $375 to the fair In cash and merchandise,with out which the fair would not have been a financial success. The receipts have been applied to the necessary expenses—gate keepers, policemen, watchmen, repairs on the buildings and the rare track, print ing and postage, premiums and other incidental expenses. Mr. Akermau is at the head of the Department of Forestry at the State University, and has been doing some very effectlvo work in Georgia for the preservation of our forests. Messrs. Perry and Thorne, the New York financiers who bought the South ern Railway’s interest in the Central of Georgia, have sold their holdings to E. H. Harriman, the greatest rail way magnate in the world. This gives Mr. Harriman a through line from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The Bank of Cedartown held its nual stockholders’ meeting Monday, and re-elected all old directors and officers. This excellent financial in stltution makes a fine showing, its deposits being $77,823 and surplus $10,367 In 1906, while its deposits are now $129,849 and its surplus $20,615.
