MEETING HAS TRIUMPHANT CLOSE I THE BONUS BILL
Simultaneous Services at Churches End Last
Evening.
A marvelouB Rories of meetings
came to a close last evening, with re
sults far beyond the expectations of
most of our people. The idea of sim
ultaneous meetings is a new one
here, but it proved so successful and
satisfactory that it is probable the
same plan will be pursued again from
time to time.
The churches have all had the best
of outside help.^and the > Word has
been preached with earnestness und
power from each of th* pulpits, and
in each the excellent music has been
an inspiring feature of the services.
At St. James Episcopal church the
mission has been conducted by Dr.
JI. W. Fulford, of LaGra'nge, with
r. Bernard Hirons, recently of Can-
da, in a charge of the music and chil-
en’s services.
)• Dr. Chas. Kingsley, formerly of
Florida but now the Evangelist of
the Cherokee Presbytery, has been in
charge of the services at the Presby
terian church, with Mr. J. B. Belk, of
Gainesville, as the song leader.
It was a matter of regret that Dr.
ohn W. Inzer, one of the greatest
reackers ever heard here, had to re-
bm Saturday morning to his work in
’.hattanooga, but his place at the
i 'imt Baptist church was well taken
by Rev. J. B. Tallunt, of Roseville.
Mr. Edgar Staton, of Hall county,
was in charge of the music.
Dr. W. G. Crawley, of St. Paul’s
church in Atlanta, has had the sym
pathy and admiration of all in his de
votion to duty, remaining in charge
of the services at the First Methodist
church in spite of the serious illness
F<nt $4,000,000,000
Passed by House.
The House last Thursday passed
the ^4,000,000,000 soldier bonus bill.
It provides cash payments to men
entitled to receive $50 or less; an en
dowment insurance certificate on
which service men may borrow up to
50 per cent of its fnce value, and
they are given the option of these
of his son. Rev. B. F. Pim, whom j two provisions, or home aid, farm aid,
everybody in Cedartown learned to * ^ an d settlement or “vocational train-
love during the big tent meetings
here last year, was in charge of the
music and children’s services.
In all the churches the keynote of
the f meetings was to revive the mem
bership and impress upon them the
necessity of clean and honest living
—without which professions of re
ligion are a vain pretence.—as well
as the conversion of those outside the
church. In both respects the meet
ings had gratifying Tesults. Each of
the churches received substantial in
creases in their membership.
While the specliR meetings closed
last night, it is expected that the
special effort for reclamation and
conversion will continue in all the
churches.

who have done such noble work leave
us with the appreciation, esteem and
good wishes of all our people.
ing.
Under the rule a two-thirds major
ity was roquired to pass the measure.
The vote was 333 to 70.
The bi|l now goes to the Sonata,
where the Republican leaders will
find it difficult to have it sidetracked.
Thpir plan was to have it pushed
through the House to catch the votes
of the soldier boys in tho fall elec
tions, and have it held up in the Sen.
ate indefinitely for the benefit of the
taxpayers.

Do you realize that hundreds of
thousands of Jews in Russia and Cen
tral Europe are starving today?
Many thousands of them are helpless
children. Their condition is hopelea*
unless America comes to their aid.
Do you know that the Jews in the
United Stntes are among our most
liberal contributors to general char
ity?
Here in Cedartown thc one man
who was willing to give his time and
labor ns the head of our Red Cross
is a broad - minded, liberal-hearted
Jew. And the writer is in a position
to know just a little of the generous
response which is made by our Jew
ish families to the calls for aid here,
especially in looking after the needs
of the children of the poor.
Mayor Homer Watkins made an
eloquent appeal for the starving Jews
of Europe at the mass meeting of
the churches Sunday afternoon, and
stated that committees would call on
our people this weok in the interest
of this worthy cause.
