For Oongre**, James m. guiggs, of Terrell, -«= Getters! Presentments of Grand Jury OoTotiKB Term, 1000. . We, the Grand Jury, chosen and sworn to serve at this, the October Term of Berrien Coun¬ ty Superior Court, beg leave to make the following present¬ ments : Public Buildinuh, We have examined the build¬ ings and find the jail in good shape so ferns tho present build¬ ing will admit of and that the prisoners are well fed and cared lor. Wo find however that the present building renders it im¬ possible to properly cure for prisoners, there hei.ig no pro¬ vision for separating white and colored, male and female pris¬ oner and we urge the proper au- tlmritie* to proceed at once to erect a suitable building. We find that (he roof on tower of Court house is in hud rendition. The leaking being such as to cause material damage if not attended to promptly. We find the court house floors and wulls In filthy condition, caused from spittle and recommend that spit toons he provided and the Jani¬ tor lie required to keep the build¬ ing in decent shape, We recom¬ mend that permanent light* be provided for the public rooms. Public Roads. The public roods of our coun¬ ty are not such as are required by the laws of this state, but on the contrary their conditions art- such h» to render travel nnd transportation thereon incon¬ venient, expensive and unsafe and asis well known this condi¬ tion is probably due toconstnm neglect during past years rat It¬ er than indigence on the port o! any particular individual or of¬ ficial. This consideration alone prevents our returning the Road Commissioner* to bo deal with by the court as the rendition* of tlte roads demand. In lieu thereof we recommend that the County Commissioners procure and keep a “Public Road Reg¬ ister” a* required by law, nnd that they tissemhlo the Road Oomtnusionar*, classify the pub¬ lic roads of tho county and that they require the Commissioners to proceed at ottos to clear tlte roads of stumps, trees, brush, etc., f->r n space of at least six¬ teen feet and to put them in all other respects in such conditions as prescribed by law for ilnl class road*. We recommend al¬ so flint on all bridges exceeding 1W0 feet in length, passageway, or turnouts be built of such width ns will allow teams to pass each other in safety. We recommend that the dork furnish a copy of these present¬ ments to the presiding Judge and Grand Jurv at the n<-xt term of the Superior O.ulrt in order that iuvuiry may Ik* made and actions taken in case of to comply with the n- tl,o road law of the st ;U Cv Books > ^ g> . Over a happy home consisting <>f father, mother and two babes, the death angel hovered many days, aye, weeks ere he snapped the love cords binding this fain¬ tly. Hut on Friday, Wept. 2ist, 1000 The Lord who gave said, “It is enough, bring it to me,” and the cherub spirit of little Jewell Estora, eldest of Mr. and Mrs. J. 8. Simians, was freed from the pain racked body. The little one was never strong, and for several days had been very sick, hut on Thursday seemed very much better; the elated parent* fondly hoped to see it HOC n regain its wanted playful¬ ness, but on Friday morning while being dressed she was tak¬ en with terrible agony and died between twelve and one o’clock. The funeral service w as appro¬ priately conducted by Rev. John Patterson at Cross Roads Little Jewell was indeed a treasure in this home.—She was unusually bright and wise be¬ yond her years. With aching hearts ths parents see the little rockers and hear theories of pet “kitty,” 8o many things re¬ mind them hourly of their darl¬ ing. ’Twas a lovely flower early broken front the mother stem, but planted in heaven it will never fade; a jewel indeed which placed in the Father’s crown will never loose its lustre. Ah, fath¬ er and mother, your little one i> in good bunds; is on a broad oosom and nestled under the wings of divine love. Heaven is dearer for you have a jewel there. Beautiful hands of a little one sec, CftlliuK. Oh father anti mother, to thee. Bttby-faoeil darling, tho light of our home, Ixmugly, tenderly beckoning come, M. M.T. ASSASSINATION IN LOWNDES.
