FIRE PROTECTION NF.ED.
A Suggestion.
Add needs tire protection.
8 I 10 needs somethin g besides
main strength and awkarduess
with which to combat the lire
fiend. ' n years gone by we
have suffered much loss from
this source. The last general
conflagration in Adel was in
many wavs a blessing in disguise
in as much as a block of cheap
wooden structerers were burned
and made a new brick block a
possibility. Another tire cover¬
ing the same area would be a
vi ry dirastrc.us one and would
be such a blow as would shake
the town to its very foundation.
Tl.e e’s no doubt bu! that
w* m el some kind of fire fight¬
ing apparatus and some organ¬
ized plan of action in case of
fire. The following suggestion
is offered for consideration.
The Adel Ginning Go., has a
large-engine and an unfailing
well of water within a few hun¬
dred feet of the main business
part of town. With a large wa-
ter lank erected, say about the
railroad right of way, and a few
bundled feet of hose, with prop¬
er couplings and nozzles might
prove to be the most effective
as well as the cheapest, solution
to this problem. If the citizens
and city council would co-oper¬
ate together they might devise
means to erect this cistern, and
we’ve no doubt but that satis-
factory arrangements could be
made with the Adel Ginning
Co., for keeping the water prop¬
erly supplied from their power
plant nearby. Is this a practi¬
cal suggestion? Is it possible
to act on this or something bet¬
ter? If so. why wait until the
town is visited by a‘disaster that
would seriously cripple our re¬
sources. The fire i« ns suro to
come as the years go by.
The best time to prepare for
war is in time of peace. The
columns of Thk nbws are open
to the discussion of questions
that pertain to the general wel-
fare of the town. So, speak
if you have something per-
to say.
The Beet Prescription for Malaria
and Fever is a bottle of Grove’s
Chill Tonic. It is simply iron
quinine in ft tasteless form. No

SOWING WHEAT.

is a splendid time to sow
this cereal and a numder of plan¬
are already sowing. Tho ov¬
family pays out more mon¬
for flour in the run of a year
than for any other one thing and
if this heavy expense can be
it will be just that much
saved to the planter. Diversity
is the key note of success in
farming and the quicker every
planter realizes Ibis from actual
experience the better it will be
for him.
Mr. O’Quin was nearly eighty-
live years old and for nearly
three score years had been n
consecrated member of the Mis¬
sionary Baptist church. He
taught school for many long
years and reared a large family,
leaving ten living children and
a great host of other descend¬
ants.
He was also n mason but the
Worshipful Master other of his lodge,
as well as many masons in
the county, was attending the
Grand Lodge in Macon and no
arrangements could be made in
time for a fraternity burial.
These last sad rites will lie ren¬
dered Sunday morning by the
members of this order.
