Council met in special ses¬
sion, the full board being j>res-
ent.
A. A. Webb wat present and
accepted the office of Clerk &
Treasurer as tendered by coun¬
cil. His bond, in the sum of
seven hundred and fifty dollars,
was tendered and approved, af¬
ter which the oath of office was
administerd by Mayor Parrish.
The books and funds belonging
to the town weTe turned over by
the rM-iring Clerk & Treas., C.
E. XVebb.
J. M. hhaw was present as
marshal-eted* tendered br/ml in
the sum of two-hilitdred and fif¬
ty dollars, the bond being ap¬
proved after which the oath of
the office was duly administered
by the mayor.
On motion, the street tax was
ordered to be collected and turn
ed in separately from other
funds and that a separate ac¬
count be kept for such funds,
to be use 1 solely for the im¬
provement of the streets and
bridges of paid town. Carried.
The body then discussed sever¬
al questions of importance in an
informal way, and instructed
the marshal to collect all rents
and taxes promptly or report de¬
faulters and delinquents to the
Mayor for action.
Tlie marshal under the direc¬
tion of street committee, was
instructed to have the streets
cleaned up and kept in clean
condition and notice is hereby
given that the ordinance a-
gaihst obstructing or Jittering
the street s'with uibbish or trash
of any kind will hereafter be
strictly enforced.
Special instructions were also
given the sanitary committee
p or proper inspection and action
in regard to the sanitary condi¬
tion of the town.
The matter of a new or amend
ed charter for the town was dis¬
cussed and the Clerk was in-
structed to prepare legal notices
at once find have posd Oil and
advertised as required bv law,
after which the council adjourn¬
ed to meet again Friday night
to further consider rhe question
and subject matter of a new
charter.

This department has been carefully
graded and very thorough instruction
given in aU of the common school
branches. XVe have been fortunate in
securing the services of Mr. Smith, who
has had eleven years’ experience in
successful teaching. As a testimonial
to his high scholarship he recently re¬
ceived unsolicited a permanent license
from the State School Commissianer.
