DEATH OF ENGLAND'S QflEEN.
The civilized world is in mourn-
ing over the death of Queen Vic¬
toria which occurred Tuesday.
iShe had been seriously ill for sev-
tral days and gradually succombed
to infirmity and disease until the
end. For more than three score
years she had been the legal head
of the greatest, kingdom in the
world and her rule Compares mosr
favorably with any of her prede*
cessors * She was in her 83rd year
and Was loved for her womanly
Virtues as well as the venerable
age she had attained.
The Prince ol Woles has been
proclaimed King and will reign
lib aa King Edward VII. He is the
dead queen’s oldest eon and is
now nearly sixty years of age and
cannot hope to have as long or a
more successful reign than did his
beloved mother.
Quality and not quantity makes
DeWitt’s Little Early Risers
such valuable little liver pills.
J. E. Peeples.
Tlie Daily News of Atlanta was
the first paper in the state to give
new*. of Queen Victoria’s death .
Score another for the News.
The most soothing, healing and
a ntiseptic application ever devised
is DeWitt’s Witch Hazel salve. It
relieves at once and cures piles,
sores, eczema and skin diseases,
beware of imitations. J E Peeples
In the disastrous fire which oc¬
cured 'll Vienna this Week the
Progress office and outfit was de¬
stroyed. We sympathize with
Editor Smith and look for him to
rise above the smouldering ruins
in new splendor,
The merited reputation for cu-
reing piles sores and skin diseases
acquired by DeWitt’s Witch Ha¬
zel ialve 1ms led to the making of
worthless counterfeit*. Be sure
to get only D»Witt’s salve. J. E
Peeples.
* Queen Victoria's death was
published in the papers of tlie
United States before the same
news was given to the public in
the Queen’s home country. This
is a tribute to the enterprise of
American newspaper people.
Persons who suffer from Indi¬
gestion can nbt expect to live long
because they cannot eat the food
required to nourish the body and
the products of Mlo Undigested
foods they do eat poison the blood
It is important to cure indigestion
as soon as possible and the best
method of doing this is to use the
preparation known as Kodol Dys¬
pepsia Cure. It digests what you
eat and restores all the digsstive
organs to perfect health. J. E.

Pathos in Police Court.
A volume of pathetic meaning
'was compressed in a reply made
recently tv a police magistrate in
New York by a poor old creature,
a woman arraigned before him on
the charge of vagrancy. Being
asked her age, the woman replied
I have seen fifty five- 17 U Su ai¬
mers or winters?’’ broke in the
magistrate. “Mostly winters sir.’’
replied'the prisoner. Such lives
are, indeed more properly rtieas-
bred by winters than byaumniere.

Tlie Valdosta Fair
Valdosta is Uniting in a deter¬
effort to have a fair next
which will eclipse any local
state fair which lias been pull-
off in years. The sum of §8000
has already been subscribed to¬
wards this end and the list is by
no means exhausted. The build¬
ings and ground are already at
hand and by beginning now the
plan is entirely feasible to make
the occ.ition a great one. if the
farmers are assured that the fair
will be Held and that handsome
premiums will be offered they will
plant and cultivate general and
special crops with the expectation
of competing for these prizes.
This is the plan to make the
fair a success and we give it our
hearty endorsement.
The Motberi Favorite
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is the mo¬
thers favorite, It is pleasant and safe for
children to take and always cures. It is
intended especially for coughs, colds,
croup, and whooping cough, and is the
best medicine made for these diseases.
There is not the least danger in giving it
to children for it contains no opium or
other injurious tlHlg and may be given
as Confidently to a babe as an adult. For
sale by J. E. Peeples.

J. S. Betts & Co. are building a
brick wall 30 feet high, between
their boiler rooms, and the mill
proper and when the mill is run¬
ning, if the end of the world
comes from the east, the opera¬
tives will never know it until they
are caught in the neck. The ar¬
rangement of the mill is the most
complete in the south. The logs
and timbers are all handled by
machinery, and two saws and car¬
riages run at the same time. No
visitors or spectators will he al¬
lowed on the floor of the mill,
but an overhead walk is provided
for them, where they can see the
vast plant at work without being
in the way, or exposed to any
danger.-Gazelle.
