[TO SUE THOMAS E.
Bezton Says Pop Leader Guilty
! of Blackmail.
' Macon, Ga., Sept. G.—-‘I am
going to swear out a warrant
charging Thomas Watson with
blackmail,” was the statement
of Banker L. O. Benton, of Mon-
ticell >, Ga., in regard to the re¬
port that he had sworn out a war¬
rant against Hon. Thomas E.
Watson.
Those who re member the origi¬
nal suit which was brought some
time ago by Kate Roebuck,
through her alleged attorneys,
Watson & Gross, against Banker
Benton for breach of promise,
say it was one of the most sensa¬
tional ever brought in a Georgia
court. Ti e case was settled out
of court, Banker Ben tan, it is
said, paying Kate Roebuck a large
sum of money as the result of a
compromise. He now claims that
it was a compounded felony in
which Watson <fc Gross, who, he
says, were her attorneys, were
implicated.

LEFT FIVE THOUSAND ON CAR
Experience of President Dunson,
of LaGrange Banking Co.
Atlanta, Sept. 5.—Presuming
that a package left on a passen¬
ger train of the Atlanta and West
Point railroad was only a loaf of
bread, Flagman Emmett Martin
threw the package carelessly into
a rack above the seat, where it
was found. Later it was found
that the package contained $5,000
in paper money, the property of
the LaGrange Banking Company
Mr. Martin observed it reclin¬
ing nonchatantly on a teat of his
train, and failing to whiff the
fragrant odor of com in bulk,
tossed it carelessly in a nearby
enii ty rack as if. it lmd been rye
or graham, or even a plain ivlute
loaf.
Also Mr. Joe Dunson, president
of tire LaGrange Banking Com¬
pany, while on his way from At¬
lanta to LaGrange Friday after¬
noon couldn’t have treated a loaf
of bread with any more disre¬
spect.
The $5,000 package in question
belonged to Mr. Dunson. He
boarded the Atlanta and West
Point road Friday, carelessly toss¬
ed the package neatly wrapped
up on the scat beside him and
opened his paper.
When his station was reached
Oapt. Bell sang out: “LaGrange ;
passengers are warned not to for-
get their packages!”
After getting off President
Dunson discovered he had lest
the $5,000 on the train.
About the same time Flagman
Martin found a loaf of bread—so
he t hought.
Whether $5,000 chunked in one
lump, resembles an automobile
or a ping-pong set is not known
to the bulk of the population,
hence no blame can attach to Mr.
M\fctiu f-.r his mistake.
Seizing the loaf, alius the $5-
he stalked by, lie tossed it
in the first rack he reached. Even
a staul old loaf of bread couldn’t
have behaved any better, for it
never moved.
No sooner had he discovered
his loss than Mr. Dunson tele¬
graphed to West Point to have
the package held until his arrival.
The West Point agent boarded
the train out of town, hurriedly
hunted up the captain and re-
ported the loss. The three stalk¬
ed straight to the bundle rack,
and there the lost package reclin¬
ed at lerigth.
Mr. Dunson came m ofi the
next train and received his lost
treasurer with open arms. The
president felt just $5,000 better,
while the finger tips of Flagman
Martin began to itch and burn.

THE WESTBROOK CASE.
Won’t be Heard Until Septem*
ber 20th, by Commissioners.
it has been a good many weeks
since the tempest took the lid off
Albany’s teapot. Most people
remember Dr. Lon G. Brough¬
ton’s salty charges against Al¬
bany's chief of police, the chief’s
attack on the Doctor and the
formal charges preferred by a
committee of citizens against the
head cop.
- Everybody supposed that
trial and investigation of the
chief’s conduct wcnld come im¬
mediately but it has been post¬
poned and deferred even like
unto the fall of Port Arthur. Last
night’s-Albany Herald, brings the
news that the investigation will
not take place before September
20th. The ostensible cause of tlie
delay is the absence, either pres¬
ent, or future of some of Albany’s
police commissioners.— Tbom-
