Willie Holston, who is near the completion of his trade of Masonary at the Muscogee County AreaVocationalTechni- cal School in Columbus, Geor gia, was the first student of Eureka High to attend this school and brought honor to our county and the Vocational School by winning first place in the ‘ state-wide Masonary Contest which was held last spring in Atlanta, Georgia. Entering for the first time at this Vocational Trade School in Columbus, Ga. are: Rochelle Jackson, Charles Ingram, Annie Nell Baldwin and Melvin Bald win. Robert McCartha, graduate of 1962 as first honor student of Eureka High, received one-half scholarship to Morehouse Col lege. We trust that this young man will continue to distinguish himself as an honor student at this Institution. Jacquelyne Me Cartha has entered as a freshman at Mor ris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia. Hattie Williams, Eureka High’s third honor student and Pearlie Rogers are freshmen at The Fort Valley State Col- leg. Davis attended a meeting of the Georgia Interscholastic As sociation for District III on last Wednesday, September 12th in Thomaston, Ga. This meeting carried all phases of the G I A Program including dramatics, Music, Dancing, Oratorical Contests, Athletics, Essays and Spelling. Principal Hicks was elected as representative for District III of the G I A which will automatically make him a mem ber of the state committee. Attending the Fifteenth An nual Leadership Clinic of the Georgia Teacher’s and Educa tion Association held in Dublin, Ga. at the 4-H Club Camp, Sep tember 14, 15, and 16th were: Mr. J. C. McCrary, Mr.Tendril Lavender, and Principal Hicks. Some of the guests speakers were: Mr. Jessie O. Thomas, President, Georgia Conference on Educational Opportunities; Mr. T. A. Evans Next week is Preparation Week in our church. It is vital for every Sunday School worker to attend. Every member who attends will be richly blessed. Much is to be gained by church wide attendance. We will meet nightly, Monday through Fri day, at 7:30 p. m. Along with making plans and setting goals for next year we shall study the TRUE FUNCTIONS OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL. Guest speaker will be presented on two or three nights. Butler Methodists Plan Week Butler Methodist Church is to be host to a Christian Workers School on Mon., Tues., and Wed., Sept. 24, 25, and 26. Dr. J. Ellsworth Tucker of Wesleyan College will conduct the class each evening at 8 o’clock on HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR CHURCH SCHOOL. All Methodist people in Taylor County are invited to attend these three sermons, sponsored by the Butler Methodist Church. Wont Ads SALE: In Howard, Ga., en- s ix acres of land and six room APPLE DUMPLINGS i red 1 1 cup milk 6 medium apples, and peeled I tablespoon sugar I tablespoon red cinnamon candies ROSY J 4 cup sugar 3 tablespoons red cinna mon candies J 4 cup water 2 cups sifted enriched sell rising flour U, cup shortening Combine 44 cup sugar. 3 tablespoons candies and water in saucepan. Heat, stirring frequently, until candies dissolve. Set aside while preparing dough. Measure flour into bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add enough milk to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly floured board or pastry cloth and knead gently 30 seconds. Roll out to 12 x 18-inch rectangle. Cut with pastry wheel or sharp knife into six 6-inch squares. Place an apple in center of each square. Combine 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon candies and place about 1 teaspoon of tlie mixture in center of each apple. Bring opposite corners of biscuit squares together around apples and seal edges securely. Place in greased 7 x 11-inch baking pan. Spoon prepared sirup over dumplings. Bake in moderate oven i 375 K.
