Miss Betty Jo Hammack and
Miss Dondra Peed. Who

As Homecoming rapidly ap

That night, with the members

sure that it will be a wonder
ful banquet again this year.
Festive holiday napkins are
being sold by the Future Busi

Welika Club
Meets At
Ellaville
By: Mrs. B. C. Brewer
Ellaville
In this day when folks go
into retirement at an early age,
it is refreshing to learn of a
group of women who refuse to
give up living because they are
left alone. This little town in
South West Georgia has a block
of charming small homes set in
attractive yards, all of them
built and kept up by older
women -- whose special joy is
the monthly meetings of the
"Welika Club" when each take
a "covered dish’’ and go to a
home for supper and visiting.
In November, the group met
at the home of Mrs. J. E.
Dillard with the following mem
bers present: Mrs. Lillian Mil
ler, Mrs, Edith Willians, Mrs.
Eula Brewer, Mrs. Oscar
Miles, Mrs. E, E. Heloway,
Mrs. Robert Heath, Mrs. Jen
nie Cheek, Mrs. J. M. Ellis,
Mrs. Mattie LeeCarswell, Mrs.
Gus Williams, Mrs. Lila
Jordan, Miss Bevda Cole. Visi
tors included Mrs. Alva Robin
son and four of the hostess’
daughters, Mrs. J. R. Bridges,
Jr., Mrs. Thelma Tidd, Mrs.
Kermitt Green andMrs. Vernon
Dillard, all of whom assisted
in serving a wonderful supper.
Officers for the coming year
were elected as follows: Presi
dent, Mrs. Edith Williams; Vice
President, Mrs. Mattie Lee
Carswell: Secretary, Miss
Veda Cole; Treasurer, Mrs. J.
M. Ellis.
December meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Oscar Miles
at which time the group will
enjoy cake and coffee and the ex
change of small gifts.

The students wish to take this
time to tell everyone a little
about Coach Athon, whom they
think is "tops’’.
Mr. Athon began coaching at
Reynolds in 1959. The first
year lie was here, he coached
both the boys and girls. The
girls team made it to the state
finals that year.
The second year, he again
coached both the boys and girls
team. Although his basketball
teams didn’t go to state, lie
coached a winning track team
that placed 2nd in Region. His
mile-relay team broke the
Class C State record.
Last year Mr. Athon coached
just the boy’s basketball team.
He lead the boys to win 2nd
place in Sub-region play, and
3rd place in Region play.
His track team, last year,
won 1st place in Region com
petition and 2nd place in State
Competition. Again his mile-
relay team broke the State Class
C record that they had set
the year before! I ! One of his
boys was on the All-Star State
Track Team. He placed 2nd
in pole vaulting in competition
with all the other classes and
broke the Class C pole vaulting
record.
This year Mr. Athon is coach
ing boys and girls teams. At
this time their region standing
are 2 wins and 0 loses for
both teams. Mr. Athon is
leading his boys to another
outstanding season. Their re
cord, so far, is 8 wins and 1
loss.

There’s a new idea going around. And it’s catch
ing on. The Dart idea! No longer do you have to be
packed or stacked in a compact. Now there’s
plenty of room—for head, feet, and seat. No longer do you
have to settle for weak-sister power. Dart saves with the rest
of ’em ... yet outstrides the best of ’em. That’s the whole
idea! Too roomy to be a compact, too darn thrifty to be
anything else! And lots of spunk in the bargain. Now go
see it. Nine fresh models. New 5-year/50,000-mile warranty*.
