Miss Brynda Peed and Miss
Lynda Peed, both 15 year old
sophomores, are the official
managers of the basketball
teams. Besides the fact that
they are twins, they are alike
in many ways. They enjoy out
door sports and both are mem
bers of the 4-H and Tri-Hi-Y.
So far their futures are un-
dec ided.

Weds John L. Sikes
In Hinesville Rites
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Abbott
of Mauk announce the marriage
of their daughter. Peggy Ann,
to John L. Sikes Jr. of Mala
bar, Florida, on December 21,
at the First Methodist Church,
Hinesville, with the Rev. Roy
L. Gardner performing the
double ring ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Sikes will make
their home at 400 Bradwell
Street, Hinesville, Georgia,
where the bride is employed
with the Liberty County Board
of Education and the groom is
employed with the Coastal U-
tillty Telephone Company.
BEARS PLAY
The Butler Bears, unleashing
their finest offensive attack of
the year, defeated Gordon Mili
tary Tuesday night 65-45.
Leading the attack were juniors
Hillery Bone and Howard Locke,
with 23 and 18 points and 10
and 13 rebounds, respectively.
Other Bears who performed
well were Roger Clark, Richie
McCants, Mike Almgren and
Gary Hobbs.
The Butler girls continued
their winning ways by downing
Ellaville 57-38 to raise their
record to 15-2. Their region
record is 3-0, and as of this
moment they are leading the
sub-region. However, there
are 4 region games remaining.
The Bears and Bearettes jour
ney to Montexuma tonight to
face the rebels in a region en
counter, then return home next
week to face Byron Friday and
Perry Saturday. The Friday
game is also a region game.

Plan Lay Leader

A Lay Speaker’sTraining Re
treat will be held at Ida Cason
Callaway Gardens January 12-
13 by The Methodist Church of
the Columbus District. William
B. McPherson, Associate Di
rector of Lay Speaking for the
General Board of Lay Activities
will be the leader.
Melton Hughes, Columbus
District chairman of Lay
Speaking, has announced the
schedule to begin at 2:00 P. M.
Saturday, Jan. 12, and to con
clude at 2:30 P. M. Sunday,
Jan. 13. The retreat is plann
ed to prepare laymen to fill
pulpits in the District during the
"No Silent Pulpits" period,
February 3 to April 7, which
allows every church in the South
Georgia Conference to have a
worship service every Sunday
during the period. The pro
gram is sponsored jointly by the
Board of Lay Activities and
the Board of Evangelism.
All certified Lay Speakers
and all prospective Lay Speak
ers are urged to attend by the
Reverend William J. Erwin,
District Superintendent. "Bill
McPherson," states the Rev.
Mr. Erwin, "is the top man
in Methodism in this area.”
Mr. McPherson, a graduate of
Jamestown College and the
University of Minnesota, has
been a conference delegate to
the Jurisdictional Conference
and has just completed his
first year with the staff of the
General Board of Lay
Activities.
The coming of the New Year
found all the students back at
their desks, though each was a
little sleepy-eyed from missing
the late sleep enjoyed over the
holidays.
Miss Kay Davis, Miss Helen
Rodgers and Miss Roger Ann
Streetman were each presented
a gold OBE pin by Mrs. Guy,
who teaches typing and short
hand and is sponsor of the
FBLA. These pins were for
efficiency in typing. Also Senior
typing awards were given. Only
second year typing students may
receive these after typing a per
fect copy of designated
material.
The Beta Club is still work
ing on the list of freshmen to
be invited to join the organi
zation. Those invited mus
have an average of 85 or more.
The Beta Club secures this in
formation by checking the
school’s records.
The Junior Class is busily
engaged in deciding on the type
of Junior-Senior event to have
this year. The Seniors wish
them luck because they know

Terry Parham
Miss Jane nasty of Syca
more and Fort Valley became
the bride of Terry Parham of
Fort Valley on Sunday,
December 23, at 3 o’clock
in the afternoon.
The Rev. H. E. Sims per
formed the impressive double
ring ceremony at the home of
the bride’s parents in the pre
sence of the immediate
families.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Hasty of
Sycamore. After graduating
from Sycamore High School,
she attended Abraham Baldwin
College and received her bache
lor of science degree in home
economics at TiftCollege, For
syth.
She is presently a member of
the faculty of Fort Valley High
School as a teacher of home eco
nomics. She taught homemak
ing in the Butler High School
before going to Fort Valley.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
T. A. Par'tiam of Fort Valley,
and the late Mr. Parham. He
graduated from Fort Valley

To Lead Methodist
Ladies 'Bible'Class
by Mrs. Maude Joiner
The Ladies Bible Class of
the Butler Methodist Church
held a candle-lighted service in
the assembly room of the
Church on Thursday night with
23 members and one visitor
rededicating their lives to
Christ.
New officers were elected
during the business session
as follows:

approaching, marking the half
way point of the school year.
The Seniors are already pre
paring for graduation as they
order their invitations. Gradua
tion is just around the corner
and a great deal of work is
still to be done.

The W-2 withholding tax
statement is one of the most
important documents for pre
paring a Federal income tax
return, A. C. Ross, District
Director of the Atlanta Dis
trict Internal Revenue Service,
said today.
Form W-2 should be care
fully attached to the income tax
return, bu. please do not use
pins on the card Form 1040A,
Mr. Ross said.
If a W-2 Form has not been
received from an employer,
secure one from him.
