January 30th at theSt. Joseph's
Hospital in Augusta. He has
been given the name, William
Valdon Smith, Jr. Mrs. Smith
is the former Betsy Theus.

parents and Mr. and Mrs. L.
W. Theus, maternal grand
parents.

of son, Harry Newton Lovvorn,
Jr., at the Sams-Whatley
Hospital, February 13th. Mrs.
Lovvorn is the former Miss
Ellen Locke. Paternal parents

Tour With Glee
Club At Wesleyan
Miss Gloria Gilson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. High Gilson,
Jr., is one of 49 students se
lected go tour with the Wes
leyan College Glee Club.
The Wesleyan Glee Club has
toured the South extensively and
has been acclaimed one of the
best in this area. Membership
is determined by audition, and
participation in this vocal group
is an extra-curricular activity.
Under the direction of Dr.
Leon J. Villard, the Glee Club
will perform in towns through
out Florida and South Georgia
during the week of February
24th - March 2. Featured on the
tour programs will be selec
tions sung by the “Wes-
leyannes”, a select vocal
group chosen from the Glee
Club membership.
Miss Gloria Gilson is a
Senior majoring in Church
Music. She is a member of
the "Wesleyannes’' who per
form frequently in Macon and
surrounding area. . She also
holds membership in Sigma
Alpha lota, national music hono
rary fraternity; and Senior
Dormitory House Council.

Mrs. W. S. Payne of Butler
has been selected as the local
fund chairman for financial
support from alumnae of The
Woman’s College of Georgia.
This year’s Alumnae Fund drive
Is being lead by Mrs. Rosalie
Sutton Gormly, Milledgeville,
assisted by area chairmen in
the fifty states and by the 159
county chairmen in Georgia. All
area chairmen will meet with
the Alumnae Council on the
campus April 26 and the top
ten classes as of April 15
will be recognized on Alumnae
Day, April 27.
Alumnae of WC ranked se
cond in the nation in per
centage of participation of fi
nancial support to their Alma
Mater through the annual A-
lumnae Fund Drive. The alum
nae broke all previous records
last year as $15,000 was con
tributed from 20% of the
alumnae. This amount was
double that of the year previous.
The primary purpose of this
year’s goal of $21,600 is f^r
scholarships. The Alumnae
Fund also gives the college
funds by which it partici
pates in the NDEA loan
program.

county with different prayer
bands. In Butler, she spent
Wednesday in the home of Mis
ses Mary E. and Janie Neis-
ler; Wednesday night held
services at Bethel Con
gregational Methodist Church;
Thursday with the Crowell and
Reynolds prayer band.
Mrs. Thomas spent a year
in Africa with her daughter
before entering this prayer

in Marion, Ind.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Albrit
ton of Butler announce the en
gagement of their daughter,
Brenda Joyce, to Victor Smith,
son of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Smith
of Ideal. The wedding has been
set for April 14 at the Faith
Baptist Church at 3 p. m.
Miss Albritton, a graduate of
Butler High School, is a re
cent graduate of the Dudley
Hughes Beauty School in Macon.
Mr. Smith, a graduate of
Macon County High School, has
served with the U. S. Army and
is now associated with the State
Highway Department in Macon.
