Eureka High School is very
proud of its students who par

tival which was held in Co

at the school sponsored a crea
tive dance entitled ‘‘Lone
liness.” The dance con
sisted of six girls: Patricia
Gray, Jacquelyn Works,
Bernice Riley, Willie J. Mil
ler, and Betty M. Chandler.
This particular group re
ceived a rating of Superior

greetings on Wednesday to our
neighboring school encouraging
girls and boys to become mem
bers of the N. H. A. chapter.
The membership for Georgia
for 1962-63 so far is 11,190
members In 149 chapters.

were delegates from Eureka
High who attended the meeting
which was held in Dublin, on
March 27-29, 1963.
Mrs. O'Bryant and Mr. Hicks
also attended the same meet
ing on the day before.
Each session of the meeting
started at 8;30 a. m. at which
time each representative at
tending the conference had to
register by paying a fee of one
dollar. After registration, the
supervisor and teachers of the
Columbia County School System
took charge of the devotional
services. Upon completion of
these services, Mr. T. A. Car
michael, Director of Negro
Education in Georgia, greeted
the delegation, at which time he
pointed out the following things
that should be done in order to
improve elementary education
and education in general in the
state of Georgia; 1. Program
of supervision; 2. Compulsory
attendance law; 3. An up-
to-date mathematics program;
4. Reading program needs im
proving; 5. Improvement in
our Science Program, etc.

competent teaching and drop
outs constitute the worst waste

should consist of the following
items: 1. Record Keeping
(Cumulative); 2. Testing (Mea
surement); 3. Counseling; 4.
Giving Information (factual in
formation).
Dr. Smith also stated that all
teachers should give sound
counciling in health, physical
fitness and the use of leisure
time.

Crokett, Music Consultant,
State Department of Education,
Atlanta. His topic was "Path
ways to Music”.

To Open April Sixth
The Hortman and Eliiston lake, located four miles north
east of Butler, will be opened for public fishing on Saturday,
April 6th. From this date until the close of the season, the
lake will be open to the public on Wednesdays, Thursdays
and Saturdays for day fishing only. The following regulations
will govern fishing in this lake:
1. Fishing will be limited to daytime only.
2. All fishermen will adhere strictly to the posted string
limits.
3. Boats will be permitted provided no gasoline motors
are used on boats in the lake.
4. All persons fishing will, before leaving the lake, have
their daily catches checked by the person or persons in
charge.
5 Fishing will be by the day and no season tickets will be
sold.
This twenty acre lake has been developed, stocked and
managed in accordance with State Game and Fish Commis
sion recommendations and is wel stocked with bluegills,
shellcrackers, warmouths, bass, and catfish. For a dollar
per person per day for fishing in this lake we are sure you
will be pleased with your catch.

sentative. The delegates and
