As a public service to the
people of Taylor County in help
ing to explain the correct way
to vote in 1964, we are happy to
join Congressional Candidate
Garland T. Byrd in presenting
a General Election ballot. You
will find a copy of the entire
ballot on page seven of this
week’s issue, made possible by
Mr. Byrd.
With the aid and ; advice of
Ordinary Mrs. Bussey Childs,
a story is included in the center
of the front page explaining how
to vote in order that your vote
may count. This story was also
read by a lawyer to be sure the
interpretation of the election
laws was correct.
May we urge you to read the
story and study the sample copy
of the ballot. Then try voting
to be sure you know how. Do
not mark out any names but
check as the instructions at the
top so indicate.
Please tell your neighbor so
that everyone will remember to
be extra careful on election day.
Remember, one error and the
entire ballot is voided. Be sure
your vote counts for the candi
date of your choice.

Also important to you, like
your vote on election day, is
a second full page advertise
ment sponsored by the City of
Butler.
A group of about 100 ladies
who can operate a sewing ma
chine are needed to provide the
employee potential necessary to
bring a new industry to Butler.
Contact anyone who might be
interested in a position as this
new industry comes into Butler.
If you work away from home,
this is an excellent opportunity
to stop riding many miles to
work. Come by on Saturday,
October 31, between 10 and 4,
apply for a position in the new
plant. This will not affect the
job you hold now and you can
resign the position you now
have only when you are satis
fied to accept the new job at
home.

NOTICE
Due to the election the^regu-
larly scheduled County Com
missioners meeting has been
changed to November 10.
Many voters may have a hard time making
a decision about who to vote for in the No
vember General Election but another pro
blem confronts us - how . do we vote.
We are running a sample ballot this week
to get readers interested in how to vote and
plan to provide as much information as pos
sible before the election so that YOUR
BALLOT WILL BE COUNTED in November.
For the first time, there are candidates
of both parties offered in several contests.
This may mean that you wish to vote a
split ticket on the large 22 x 28 in. “bed-
sheet ballot". This is possible under the
new Georgia election code.
You will note in the two left hand columns
long lists of Democratic candidates. At the
top, you can mark anX in the one big square
and vote for all of these from President
Lyndon B. Johnson to the local county candi
dates. Then it would only be necessary to
vote on the constitutional amendments at the
far right of the ballot and the vote would
be complete.
However if you wish to split your vote
between Republican and Democratic candi
dates, it will be necessary to NOT mark
either of the large squares at the top and
instead to read down the columns, mark
ing individually in each small square by
the man’s name. DO NOT MARK OUT ANY
NAMES! IF YOU DO NOT WISHTO VOTE FOR
A PERSON, LEAVE HIS NAME AS IT AP
PEARS. If you desire to vote for either
President on a split ticket, do not mark
any of the electors names, mark only the
block opposite the Presidential candidates
name I
As an example, those persons desiring
to vote for President Goldwater and for
local candidate Garland T- Byrd should
mark the small block opposite Senator
Goldwater and block opposite Garland T.
Byrd. Do not mark the large squares and
do not mark out any names!
If you wish to write in a candidate, it is
necessary to leave the name as it appears
on the ballot and write in the office and the
name of the person for whom you wish to vote
in the fourth column under write in candi
dates.
NOTE ESPECIALLY THAT IF AN ERROR
IS MADE IN YOUR BALLOT, IT WILL BE
VOIDED AND WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
Read very carefully the instructions that
are given at the top of the ballot and
then carefully vote for the candidates of
your choice.
If there are questions readers desire
answered, please write ua a note and we
will answer them in next weeks issue.
