Summertime, wintertime or
anytime, you can plan, prepare
and serve breakfast, lunch, din
ner, snacks, party refresh
ments or cookouts from your
freezer. Frozen foods provide
a vast array of tempting dishes
that need little or no prepara
tion before serving. Whether
the menu calls for fruits, vege
tables, meats, combination
dishes, salads, desserts, fruit
juices, sandwiches or canapes,
they’re all there for the reach
ing in the modern homemaker’s
food freezer.
Plan your freezing schedule
because at no time should you
overload the food freezer with
unfrozen food. Never put in
more than 10 percent of the
storage capacity of the unit at
an> one time. Foods should
freeze quickly and the tempera
ture within the freezer should
not rise more than 10 degrees.
When you are preparing a
main dish, It takes little more
time and effort to make enough
for several meals. To save
freezer space, line the dish
with a freezer film, pour in
contents, freeze, then remove
from the dish and overwrap
with freezer paper.
Remember old fashioned
freezer ice cream? Make those
happy memories come alive.
Prepare your favorite recipe
and f aeze in an electric freezer
or an old fashioned, hand crank
ed model. Put the ice cream
in rigid freezer containers and
store in the freezer. It is easy
to make several gallons while
you have all the supplies and
equipment out.
Frozen fruits may be used
in cookery in the same way
as fresh fruits, but this is
hardly necessary with the glo
rious selection of prepared fruit
desserts available. Many of
these need only defrosting be
fore serving; others require
brief heating or complete baking
b fore going to the tuble.
For cake lovers there’s a
selection of plain and frosted
cakes in assorted shapes and
Azes. Eclairs, doughnuts, Dan-
sh pastries and similar good
ies are not to be overlooked.
If you’re looking for a truly
novel way to use small por
tions of leftover meat, make
it into croquettes, freeze and
use later.
Most candies freeze well and
keep up to a year. Overwrap
the candy in a freezer foil or
film before placing it in the
freezer.
Cookies may be frozen before

Watch For Ips
In Your Pines
We have many attacks of en
graver beetles, better known
a3 "ips” on our pine trees in
the county each year. They
are easily recognized by the
peculiar shape of the rear end
of their body which is "scooped
out.” The adults are reddish-
brown to black about 1/4 inch
long.
The beetles attack trees that
have been weakened by any
cause, such injury by lightning,
logging operations, pulpwood
operations, grading for new
construction and many other
operations.
The beetle can be controlled
by keeping your stand in
vigorous condition by proper
thinning. In cutting operations
the , trees should be as
completely utilized as possible
and in new construction near
pines the trees that are to be
left; injury to them should be
avoided if possible.
If you do have insect damage,
contact your local ranger or
F. J. Pullen, Area Management
Forester, Talbotton.

A RIGHT TO KNOW
What does the present Insurance Commissioner
intend to do about the proposed multi million dollar
increases already planned and computed and locked
in his desk drawer awaiting his signature?
This is what Zack Cravey will do about those in
creases: On the day after he is nominated (Septem
ber I5th), he will ask the courts to enjoin any such
increases taking effect before he enters office be
cause he would have to live with them and does not
propose to do so.

WASHINGTON’S HAND
IN THE 3rd DISTRICT?
Will We Send the Administration's Candidate
to Congress?
“He (Cocke) still has not completely ruled out a po
litical venture, but more probably, he will accept an
appointment to a high post in the Johnson Adminis
tration. When he visited Columbus last weekend, he
left the impression that he will take the course which
best serves President Johnson.”
From the Columbus Enquirer, February 13, 1964
“Cocke expects to turn one of his major political
weaknesses — his association with national Demo
cratic administrations over the years-into an asset.”
From the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, August 21, 1966
THE ISSUE IS CLEAR!
“I now put all the people on notice that Jack Brinkley
will not take the course that best serves President
Johnson, but rather will take the course that best
serves the 3rd District of Georgia and the United
States of America. This is the significant difference
between myself and Erie Cocke, Jr.”

in a man who has had experience as a legislative
