Butler Methodist Church Is Scene
Of Childers-Joiner Wedding Rites

ler Methodist Church united
in marriage Miss Mary Car
olyn Joiner and William Reid
Childers Jr. Dr. C.W. Han
cock of Columbus and the Rev.
Frank Terry officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Lawrence Lee Joiner and
the late Mr. Joiner of But
ler. Parents of the groom are
Mr. and Mrs. William Reid
Childers Sr. of Griffin.
James Garner of Lilburnpre
sented a prelude of organ music
by Bach, Purcell and Handel.
A gold arch candelabra was
in the center of the choir loft
before a background of ferns.
Formal arrangements of white
stock, carnations and roses and
a pair of gold pyramid candel
abra were at either side.
Clipped huckleberry garlands
were along the chancel and
marked the pews.
Miss Johnny Adams of Col
umbus was maid of honor and
bridesmaids were Miss Jane
Johnson and Miss Dorothy
Treadwell of Atlanta, Mrs.
Franklin Lewis of Macon, Mrs.
Warren Patrick of Augusta and
Mrs. Ashlej Calhoun of Stam
ford, Conn. They wore floor
length dresses of gold peau de
soie with cap sleeves, scooped
necklines and controlled bodice
with a gathered panel at the
back. Gold and green silk or
gandy curled petals were in
termingled with green ostrich
feathers in their headpieces and
they carried cascades of bronze
and gold chrysanthemums.
The bride, escorted by Mr.
Edward Davis, chose a candle
light silk peau de soie gown
with a band of hand-run Alen-
con lace appliqued on the mold
ed bodice. The portrait neck
line, finished with hand-clip
ped lace designs was embroi
dered with seed pearls and cry
stals. A detachable chapel train
fell from the bodice and her
candlelight imported silk illu
sion veil was attached to a
crown of matching Alencon lace
embroidered with pearls and
crystals. She carried a cascade
bouquet of brides roses and
stephanotis.
The father of the groom serv
ed as best man. Usher-grooms
men were David Childers and
Richard Childers of Griffin,
brothers of the groom; Freddie
Witcher of Bremen, Larry
Hooks of Atlanta and Ashley
Calhoun of Stamford, Conn.
Mrs. Joiner chose for her
daughter’s wedding a blue wor
sted wool dress with a silver
lame hat and a white orchid
corsage.
The groom’s mother wore a
beige wool and silk ensemble
with a Dior turban and a cor
sage of bronze and gold mums.
A reception honored the new
lyweds immediately following
the ceremony. Miss Patricia
Montgomery of Atlanta invited
the guests into the Church Par
lor. The couple was joined by
the bride’s mother, the groom’s
parents, the maid of honor and
the bridesmaids in the receiv
ing line.
The brides table was centered
with a four tiered wedding cake
decorated with handspun white
roses and orchids. Small laven
der orchids were placed on
the table around the cake.
Serving at the reception were
Mrs. Harry Hicks, Mrs. Kelly
Foster, Mrs. Dennis Crowell,
Mrs. James Reeves, Misses
Katrina Cheek, Mary Carolyn
Haywood, Gwynne Guest and Va
lentine Dodson. Mrs. Eugene
Brunson kept the brides book.
For her wedding trip to Gat-
linburg the bride chose a red
wool dress and matching coat
trimmed with a goldchain belt.
She wore black accessories and
