The pastor, Rev. C. L.
Walker, and members of the
Bethesda Baptist Church
dreams became a reality
and their hearts were filled
with joy when they had their
dedication services on Sunday,
Nov. 26. Many friends and
leading citizens were on hand
to witness and enjoy the grave
events.
The morning program was
a rich and memorable one with
the Rev. Walker in charge.
He chose as his text “My
Church and I”. This was a
great inspirational sermon that
helped one to know that there
is a Supreme Being somewhere.
Mr. C. A. Hicks presided
over the afternoon program
which began with the beautiful
voices of the MeDougald’sCho
rus. The mayor of Reynolds,
Mr. Julian Whatley, gave greet
ings that were inspiring as well
as challenging. Mr. A.
O’Bryant also gave greetings
which urged all persons in the
congregation to continue to do
the work of God. The W. E.
Parker Chorus rendered music
that was beautiful in every re-
VERNA GRIGGS
(cont. from page 1)
dale, near Atlanta. He said
that what America needs today
is “an old-fashioned, heaven
sent, repentance-producing,
heart-cleansing revival.”
He said that the “concept
that big government - the
bigger, the better - is a sort
of God to worship and to look
to for security has led to an
army of bums who expect
the government to care for
them. Individual initiative is
inhibited, property rights are
sacrificed and free enterprise
has been subordinated to cen
tralized control.”
Perhaps Mr. Maddox has
found the key to the woes
of a nation. At any rate when
any nation has left God, it has
fallen whereas when a crisis
arises a nation or a family
turns to God.
As this Christmas season
approaches, it is important that
we remember the God who
created us and His Son who was
sent because He loved us. Let
us not commercialize Christ
mas until we leave out the Christ
whose birthday we celebrate.
For as “Miss Patsy” sowell
illustrated for the children
Tuesday, when we take out all
of the love and goodness in
Christmas all we have left is
a MESS.
