Also, the Board unanimously
voted to amend the FY20 school
calendar to reflect May 12th as
the last day of school for stu
dents,

tronically, including real estate
and civil filings. We are dili
gently working with our judges,
software providers, and other
Superior Court Clerks in the
State of Georgia to develop a
system to allow us to reopen
our courthouse while adhering
to the Emergency Judicial Or
der issued by the Honorable
Harold D. Melton, Chief Justice
of the Supreme Court of Geor
gia. For the moment, we are
limited to holding only emer
gency hearings.”
Mrs. McDonald added, “What
will our new normal be? Of
that, we are not certain. But,
we are certain that we are ea
ger to see and serve our com
munity!”

culture (USDA) Farm Sendee
Agency (FSA) reminds produc
ers that FSA offers farm own
ership and farm operating
loans to agricultural producers
who may not find success ob
taining loans from their tradi
tional financial institutions
because of COVID-19. Farmers
who cannot obtain commercial
credit from a bank can apply for
FSA direct or guaranteed loans.
“Farming and ranching is a
capital-intensive business, and
FSA is committed to helping
producers maintain their agri
cultural operations during this
time of crisis,” said Dianne R.
Westmoreland, FSA Acting
State Executive Director in
Georgia. “FSA loans are de
signed to assist beginning and
historically underserved farm
ers and ranchers, as well as
those w'ho have suffered finan
cial setbacks from natural di
sasters or economic downturns.
Producers may find that an
FSA loan is the best option for
them if they cannot qualify for
a loan with their traditional fi
nancial institutions or other fi
nancial institutions because of
COVID-19.”
Farm ownership loan funds
may be used to purchase or en
large a farm or ranch; purchase
casements or rights of way
needed in the farms operation;
build or improve buildings such
as a dwelling or barn; promote
soil and water conservation
and development; and pay dos
ing costs.
Farm operating loan funds
may be used to purchase live
stock, poultry, farm equipment,
fertilizer, and other materials
necessary to operate a farm.
Operating loan funds can also
he used for family Jiving ex
penses; refinancing debts un
der certain conditions; paying
salaries for hired farm laborers;
installing or improving water
systems for home, livestock, or
irrigation use; and other simi
lar improvements.
Repayment terms for direct
operating loans are scheduled
from one to seven years. Fi
nancing for direct farm owner
ship loans cannot exceed 40
years. Interest rates for direct
loans are set periodically ac
cording to the government’s
cost of borrowing. Guaranteed
loan terms and interest rates
are set by the lender.

guarantee up to 95 percent of
the loss of principal and inter

lender's normal underwriting
criteria.
The direct and guaranteed
loan program offers two types
of loans: farm ownership loans
