Kudos to the Taylor County School District staff, I don't
want to start naming names, because there are so many who
have gone way above and beyond to do everything possible
for all the Taylor County kids, and I would certainly inad
vertently omit someone. lam amazed that they have been
able to do all that has been done!
The 2019-2020 school year has now ended, and what an
ending its been! In January, we started hearing about a
virus spreading quickly in China. We took note, but didn’t
panic* By February, we were hearing that the virus was
spreading around the world and beginning to enter the U.S.
We still didn’t panic, but we started paying a little more at
tention, Then, in March, it was full on! In a matter of days,
the entire country was shut down, and the first things to
close were schools. We began to panic! We were in the middle
of the second semester of the school year, and there was still
much to be taught and learned. Kids needed food* Parents
needed sanity. It felt like the world had flipped upside down,
and it could very easily have been total chaos!
But, it wasn’t! If you think the school staff went home and
twiddled their thumbs during the pandemic and school clo-
sures-think again! Nope, they didn’t go home-they kicked
it into overdrive, and Taylor County kids didn’t miss a beat!
It’s quite amazing, actually
In a mere matter of days, the school personnel planned and
distributed learning packets, began online instruction, teach
ers were appearing online reading to students, staff and vol
unteers arrived to prepare, pack, and deliver meals to all
students, buses were making routes to deliver information,
food, and to check on students, and the list goes on and on
and on. It was like a fine-tuned machine. All this
'‘amazingness” didn't just happen! It took tremendous plan
ning, organization, and hard work. But, it happened, and
students were able to complete another year! Woohoo!
Then, it was time for the TCHS Class of 2020 to graduate.
Well, it seemed like an impossible task-hut not for Taylor
County! The staff wanted to make graduation as special as
possible, and they exceeded all expectations—once again! Not
only was this year’s graduation special—it was one of the
best graduations the county has ever seen. It was definitely
special and very memorable!
Last week, I was praising our kids and all their accom
plishments. This week, I’m praising our school stafF, who
make it all possible. With so many wonderful, caring, and
brilliant people in our schools, it’s no wonder our students
graduate and do amazing things! All school staff, I, for one,
am eternally grateful for all you do, and I am absolutely
positive I’m not alone! THANK YOU!!!

Memorial Day 2020
Public Broadcasting Service tells us the meaning of Memo
rial Day: “Since the earliest ceremonies in small American
towns following the Civil War, we have gathered on Memo
rial Day to honor and remember those who made the ulti
mate sacrifice in service to our nation. As in those early days
of laying wreaths and placing flags, our national day of re
membrance is often felt most deeply among the families and
communities who have personally lost friends and loved ones.
“This national holiday may also be the unofficial start of
the summer season, but all Americans must take a moment
to remember the sacrifice of our valiant military service
members, first responders and their families. Memorial Day
is a day of both celebration and grief, accounting for the honor
of our heroes and reflecting on their tragic loss.
“Civil War soldiers had been mustered from towns and vil
lages across the land. Like today, the loss of each soldier
was a profound tragedy for both family and community.
“Tbday, we honor service members from all of America’s past
wars. But there is immediacy in our sorrow; the wounds of
war are new again* As we struggle for ways to heal, Abraham
Lincoln’s message of almost 150 years ago can still inspire
us.
“This, then, is the mission of Memorial Day: to reach out in
support of all the soldiers and their families who have sacri
ficed so much for us*
‘Throughout America’s history, hundreds of thousands of
our fellow citizens have died bravely serving our country.
The number of battle deaths speak to the sacrifices our sol
diers and their families have made*”

The Week
But the wisdom that is from above is
first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and
easy to be intreated, full of mercy and
good fruits, without partiality, and

righteousness is sown in peace of

Total battle dead in all these wars is 1,264,403.
Memorial Day 2020, this pundit reviewed his ancestry and
his family’s military service.
Before America’s birth as a nation, Nehemiah Wade emi
grated from Southeastern England to the Province of Mary
land. His family and he subsequently moved to the Province
of Georgia.
His son Hezekiah performed military service during the
American Revolution. Upon certification of Colonel Samuel
Jack, he received 575 acres of Washington County, Georgia
land as bounty.
Hezekiah’s son Mack migrated southwest and settled on
land that is today Crisp County. His son Riley served in
Georgia’s 59th Regiment Volunteer Infantry. His grandson
Thomas served in World War I. His son Charles served in
the Second World War. Both of Charles’ sons served during
the Vietnam era; neither engaged in combat.
None of this pundit’s lineage died in battle, all of his friends
survived their service, and so, on Memorial Day he chooses
to remember three Marines that died in May 1975: Lance
Corporal Joseph Hargrove, Private First Class Gary Hall,
and Private Danny Marshall.
That trio is part of the one million two hundred sixty-four
thousand four hundred and three battle dead honored on
Memorial Day. They were an M-60 machinegun crew of the
3rd Platoon, Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd
Marine Division that went across the beach onto Koh Tang
Island, Cambodia for the purpose of rescuing the crew of SS
Mayaguez, an American merchant ship, less than two weeks
after America abandoned South Vietnam to the communist.
Operation Mayaguez was an ill-conceived and hastily ex
ecuted 14-hour long American foreign policy tragedy.
In the fog-of-battle and confusion of a nighttime withdrawal
under heavy fire, those three Marines found themselves
abandoned on a distant battlefield. Khmer Rouge soldiers
captured Hargrove and Commander Em Son executed him.
Two days later Son’s subordinates captured Hall and
Marshall, The two young Marines were humiliated and tor
tured for a couple of weeks then Meas Samouth beat them
to death with a club!
President Gerald Ford’s Department of Defense declared
Hargrove, Hall, and Marshall the last battle deaths of the
Vietnam War. In fact, the three forgotten Marines were
murdered prisoners-of-war!
The tragic part is Marshall at the age of 19 years, 4 months,
and 12 days had just barely completed infantry training as
a Fleet Marine. Three days before his death he was training
in a Philippine jungle, extracted, flown to Thailand, and then
landed in Cambodia. He probably did not know where he
was while advancing American foreign policy!

Windy Sea
And Demons
Obey Him
By Billy Powell
Jesus had just crossed the Sea of Galilee by boat* While at
sea, a storm arose and threatened to capsize the boat* The
disciples became fearful and summoned Jesus who was in
the stern, asleep on a pillow. The Savior rebuked the winds
and said to the sea: “Peace, be still.’’ Suddenly, the winds
ceased and the sea became calm. The disciples exclaimed,
“Even the wind and sea obey Him.”
When the boat arrived at the region of Gadara, Jesus
walked ashore and soon encountered a demon-possessed
man. The demoniac was known for walking among the burial
tombs, crying out and cutting his body. Once, the townspeople
bound the man with shackles and chains, but he broke them
and continued to spook the people. He represented the most
feared, diabolical character imaginable, a man to fear and
avoid*
The demoniac approached Jesus and screamed with a loud
voice: “Jesus, Son of the Most High God, what do you want
with me? I beg you, please do not torment me," Jesus then
shouted a command to exorcise the demon, saying: “Evil
Spirit, come out of this man!” Then the Master asked, “What
is your name?” The demon within the man answered, “My
name is Legion, for we are many.” The demon then begged
Jesus not to send them away.
At the time, 2,000 pigs were feeding on the nearby hillside.
The demons, knowing there was no refusal to Jesus' com
mand, begged Him to let them enter into the pigs. In re
sponse to their request, Jesus permitted the demons to en
ter the pigs. Suddenly, the pigs rushed violently down the
steep cliff into the lake below and drowned. Why did the
pigs suddenly bolt and run? Obviously, the demons instinc
tively wanted to get away from Jesus.
The men who fed the pigs came to see what had happened.
Upon arrival, they were astonished to see the once demon-
possessed man* calmly sitting down, fully clothed, and in
his right mind. The keepers of the pigs pleaded with Jesus
to leave their region. As Jesus returned to the boat, the healed
man requested to go with Him. Jesus responded, “Go home
and tell your friends what the Lord has done for you.”
Are people today demon-possessed? Based upon Jesus be
ing actively engaged with demons 11 times in the gospels*
demon-possession could bo a reality. Movies have been made
about demon-possession such as ‘The Exorcist” which many
have seen. The good news is that Satan or the Devil has
been defeated through Jesus’ atoning death on Calvary’s
Cross. The Evil One’s fate awaits him in the “Lake of Burn
ing Fire” (Rev. 20:10).
