RGC Holds Clubhouse Renovation
Fundraiser Tournament

Renovation Fundraiser Tour
nament and Barbecue Plate
Sale on Sept. 11th, at Reynolds
Golf Club. Whether you played
in the tournament, bought a
barbecue plate, made a dona
tion. nr volunteered your time,
it is appreciated very much.
Special thanks to Tim’s Fire
side Grill for providing the food!
The funds raised will be used
to continue working on the in
terior and exterior of the old
golf shop building. Cleaning
the interior of the building will
be the first priority. Electrical
and heating cooling are being
explored to see how much can
be done with the funds raised
from Sept, 11th. The next
fundraiser will be held in late
January or February, A Spring
event will take place in April
or May. Plan to help out in any
way you can.
Sept. 11, 2021 was a special
day at Reynolds Golf Club. The
morning was started with re
flecting on the tragic events
that occurred on 9/11/2001, A
Hag, given by Chris Borders
and installed by David Powell
and Brian Powell, was dedi
cated and flown at half staff.

Single Vehicle Crash Claims The
Life Of Phenix City Truck Driver
According to Taylor County Sheriff Jeff Watson and Taylor County Coroner Gary Lowe,
Thursday morning, Sept. 16tk, at 5:22 a.m., Jamris D. Atkins, a 26 year old male of
Phenix City, AL, was killed in a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 96, in the river bottom.
Atkins was tra veling eastbound in a refrigerated tractor trailer food delivery truck, when
he ran off the road and struck the guardrail, causing the truck to flip. He was pro
nounced dead on the scene. Sheriff Watson said the crash initially closed all lanes of
Hwy. 96, but by 6:30 a.m. } one lane was cleared and opened to allow traffic flow. The
entire scene was cleared by 11 a.m. Atkins leaves behind a wife and nine-month-old
twins.
Laticia Dixon Sworn In As
Reynolds City Councilwoman
To begin the Reynolds City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 20th, Taylor County Pro
bate Judge Dianne Renfroe administered the Oath of Office and conducted the swearing
in ceremony for Laticia Dixon. Mis. Dixon will represent Post 3 on the Reynolds City
Council, which was vacated by the resignation of Chris Mason.
Homeless Man Found In DOT Truck,
Ran From Law, Arrested, And Jailed
Monday morning, Sept 20th,
around 9 a.m,, employees of the
Georgia Department of Trans
portation found a homeless
man inside one of the DOT
trucks, at the DOT barn on
Hwy. 137, west of Butler.
Taylor County Sheriff Jeff
Watson said when the man was
approached, he ran toward the
Taylor County Recreation De
partment, into the woods.
The Sheriffs Office arrived on
scone and checked the area.
Sheriff Watson and Investiga
tor Wally Carpenter spotted the
man coming out of the woods
on Hwy. 96. Then, he ran back
into the woods. A foot chase
ensued, and the man, identified
as Michael L. Riddle, a 27 year
old, white male of Forsyth, GA S
was apprehended deep in the
woods.
Riddle was released from
prison on Sept. 16, 2021, He is
currently in the Taylor County
J ail and was charged with Tres
passing.
Columbus Woman Faces Drug Charges In Reynolds
According to Reynolds Police
Chief Lonnie J, Holder, on Sept.
17th, Sgt, Vernon Humphrey
and Officer Jeffrey Thompson
were traveling westbound on
GA Hwy. 96, when they ob
served a bronze in color sedan
traveling at a high rate of speed.
Sgt. Humphrey and Officer
Thompson initiated a traffic
stop, and the sedan came to a
complete stop on S. Crawford
Street. Senior Officer Danny
Anthony, Jr, arrived on scene.
Sgt. Humphrey explained the
reason for t he stop to the driver
and detected a strong odor of
marijuana coming from the ve
hicle. The driver admitted to
having marijuana in the car,
and a search was conducted.
Sgt. Humphrey retrieved a
clear bag of green, lealy sub
stance, believed to marijuana,
in the center of the console and
two smoking devices with a
thick, brown substance in a
glass vial, believed to be THC
oil. The driver admitted that
it was THC oil, and both vials
will be sent to the crime lab for
drug identification.
The driver, Antwanet Porshae
Irby, a 33 year old female of Co
lumbus, GA, was placed in
handcuffs and transported to
the Taylor County Jail, where
warrants were taken for Speed-

mg, 85 mph in a 60 mph speed
zone, Possession of Marijuana,
and Possession of a Controlled
Substance. Irby remains in the
Taylor County Jail, awaiting
bond.
Butler Council
Returns To
Zoom Meetings

Last Tuesday night, the But
ler Mayor and City Council
held the regular September
meeting via Zoom, due to the
continuing COVID-19 pan
demic.
Public Works Director David
Windham advised that the
2019 Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) project in
the Pincview Dr., Timberlane
Dr, Plantation Dr, area is al
most complete.
Windham also reported that
heavy lightning damaged the
city's pumps. The damage is
estimated to be around
$15,000. and Windham is work
ing with the insurance com
pany on this claim.
