Isn't it amazing how a date on the calendar can hold so much
significance? Out of 1 the 365 (and every four years 366J days of
the year, certain dates are clear in our minds, while the others
pass hy unnoticed. We have holidays and birthdays and anni
versaries and graduations, etc. Most of these we celebrate, and
they arouse happy feelings. These dates vary for each one of us,
so every date is special for someone, somewhere,
I don’t intend for this to lie morbid, in fact, that’s exactly what
I am striving to overcome. 1 am referring to death dates, right
now, I have so many friends who are struggling through grief
right now. It hurts to the core to see friends hurting, and I pray
for a way to help.
Death almost seems like an ugly word. While in my heart, it is
an ugly word, in my mind, 1 know that it shouldn't be. Death is
natural, and every single one of us will experience it. Since it
occurs so often and affects everyone, I wish we celebrated death,
and it brought feelings of joy. It should, but it doesn’t (not lbr me,
anyway). Funerals attempt to do just that-celcbratc the
homegoing of those who are saved by Jesus! They are now with
Him. and that’s a reason to celebrate. But, the temporary separa
tion from loved ones hangs heavy, and that grief is apparent, and
it hurts. If only we could grasp that it’s only physical death on this
planet. Our loved ones are really more alive than ever without
the confines of a physical body, and we will be one day, too,
My grandmother, Mam, lived on Earth to be 97 years old. She
lived long enough to have many, many dates on the calendar that
brought forth great sadness, the dates her parents died, the dates
her husbands died, the dates her brothers and sisters died, nieces,
nephews, cousins, dear friends, and especially the date her son
(my daddy) died. Mam was sharp, and she could keep track of
every one of those dates. There were so many dates that it was
sort of a dark joke, ‘Who died today?” (And, there was usually
an answer.) We would try to make things ‘light” and keep her
mind occupied with happy things. She was a trooper and went
along with us, but we still knew she was in deep pain. At the end
of the day on Nov. 24th, since 2001, Mam would tell me, “Well,
we got through the day!” I would reply, “Yes, we did!” Then, she
would smile and give me a big hug and a kiss on the Hps, and you
could literally feel the anxiety releasing from her body.
What I would give for one of those smiles, hugs, and kisses from
my Mam, right now! There’s a date on the calendar coming up,
April 28th, that I literally dread, That date is a double-whammy
for me. It's the date my mama died in 2010, and the date my
Mam died in 2021. That’s 13 years of physical separation from
Mama and two years from Mam. And, as most everyone knows,
from experience, that physical separation hurts.
I am trying hard to see April 28lh as a day of celebration. Mam
and Mama accepted Jesus as their Savior, so I know they are
with Him, and there is no more pain or sutiering. My mind knows
that! But, my heart just misses them so much!

Bright Light
From
Heaven
By Billy Powell
Stephen was one of the seven men chosen to be respon
sible for the distribution of food to widows in the early
church (Acts 6: 1-7). After Stephen was arrested on false
charges, he was brought hefore the Jewish Council in
Jerusalem. Chapter 7 contains Stephens’ magnificent
speech which summarized the Old Testament. Recommend
reading.
Acts 8: 3 states that Saul tried to destroy the early church
by going from house-to-house to arrest and jail both men
and women believers in Christ, Acts 9:1-2 states that Saul
was breathing murderous threats against the Lord’s dis
ciples, and had gone to the High Priest to ask for arrest
warrants against the synagogues in Damascus so Jesus
worshippers could be taken prisoners and returned to
Jerusalem,
Acts 9 tells the story of Saul's conversion. As Sauls party
neared Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed
around them. Saul fell to the ground and heard a voice
say: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you,
Lord?” Saul asked, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecut
ing. Get up and go into the city, and you will be told what
to do." The men traveling with Saul were speechless; they
heard the sound but did not see anyone. Saul got up, but
could not see.
Data Shows
Last week, the Associated Press reported Washington poli
ticians saying, “The number of people killed on U.S. road
ways decreased slightly last year, but government officials
said the 42,795 people who died is still a national crisis.
“Estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Ad
ministration [ NHTSA | showed that the number of fatali
ties dropped 0.3% from the 42,939 killed in 2021. Traffic
deaths declined slightly in the fourth quarter, the third
straight quarterly drop.
“But they’re still close to 2021 numbers, which were the
highest in 16 years.
‘“We continue to face a national crisis of traffic deaths on
our roadways, and everyone has a role to play in reversing
the rise that we experienced in recent years? Transporta
tion Secretary Pete Buttigieg, whose department includes
NHTSA, said in a statement Thursday |April 20, 2023].”
Buttigieg, better known as Mayor Pete, back in 2021, pon
tificated from his throne that racists designed America’s
roads putting Negros at greater risk than white people
are of dying in traffic accidents! That is pure bold-faced
race-baiting at its absurd worst. Mayor Pete is ignorant of
the facts federal agencies produce.
Consider these definitive findings of NHTSA: “Data
showed a 12% increase in fatal crashes involving at least
one distracted driver, with 3,522 people killed. That
prompted the agency to kick off a $5 million advertising
campaign in an effort to keep drivers focused on the road.
Agency officials said such cases likely are under-reported
by police,
“The number of pedestrians killed rose 13%, and cyclist
fatalities were up 2% for the year. The number of unbelted
passengers killed rose 8,1%, while fatalities involving al
cohol-impaired driving were up 14%."
Hum, “...fatalities involving alcohol impaired driving were
up 14%/* Buttigieg did not parse the ethnicities of those
that died due to alcohol-impaired driving or how the road
designs protect drunk white drivers. The national media
will never ask him to explain how that is.
Speaking of alcohol consumption, the CDC reported, “Ex
cessive alcohol use was responsible for more than 140,000

deaths in the United States each year during 2015-2019,
or more than 380 deaths per day...Deaths from drinking
too much in a short time (from causes such as motor ve
hicle crashes, poisonings involving substances in addition
to alcohol, and suicides) accounted for more than half of
the years of potential life lost.
“Excessive drinking is a leading cause of preventable
death in the United States, and it is also costly. It cost the
nation $249 billion in 2010 (the most recent year of data
available).”
Okay, so back to those racist-designed road traffic deaths?
The CDC says, "32 people in the United States are killed
every day in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver-
this is one death every 45 minutes.
“In 2020, 11,654 people were killed in motor vehicle
crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers, accounting for
30% of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.”
Wow, that federal agency continued with these statistics,
“62% of people [7,225] who died in crashes involving alco
hol-impaired drivers in 2020 were the alcohol-impaired
drivers themselves; 38% [4,4291 were passengers of the
alcohol-impaired drivers, drivers or passengers of another
vehicle, or nonoccupants (such as a pedestrian)...229 chil
dren ages 0-14 years were killed in crashes involving an
alcohol-impaired driver in 2020,”
The CDC continued, saying, “It is not known how many
people are killed each year in crashes involving drug-im
paired drivers because of data limitations. However, some
studies have assessed drivers for alcohol and drugs in their
systems. For example, a study at 7 trauma centers of 4,243
drivers who were seriously injured in crashes found that
54% of drivers tested positive for alcohol and/or drugs from
September 2019 to July 2021. Of these, 22% of the drivers
were positive for alcohol, 25% were positive for marijuana,
9% were positive for opioids, 10% were positive for stimu
lants, and 8% were positive for sedatives.” Wow!
The NHSTA reported, “The likelihood of encountering a
drunk driver can vary greatly depending upon when one
is on the roads. A fatal accident at night is three times
more likely to be caused by an impaired motorist than a
daytime accident.”
The FBI, in its most recent crime statistic report (2019),
reported that of the number of arrests for murder and
nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, aggravated as
sault, and burglary totaled 667,461 people. The number of
arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), however, was
a whopping 1,024,508 drunks!
Mayor Pete is either a race-baiting politician or a buf
foon, Drunk people cause more traffic deaths than road
designs kill people!

His entourage led him to Damascus. For three days Saul
was blind; he did not eat or drink anything. In Damascus
was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a
vision, saying “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The
Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street
and ask for Saul of Tarsus.” Ananias answered, “I have
heard many reports about this man and the harm he has
done to the saints in Jerusalem. He came here with au
thority from the chief priests to arrest all who call upon
Jesus.”
But the Lord said to Ananias, "This man is my chosen
instrument to carry my name to the Gentiles and before
the Jewish people.” Placing his hands on Saul, Ananias
said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you,
has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with
the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, scales fell from Saul’s eyes,
and he could see again. Paul was then baptized. Alter con
suming food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several
days with believers of Jesus. He taught in the synagogues
that Jesus is the Son of God. All who heard him asked,
‘isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among
those who call on the name of Jesus? And hasn’t he come
here to take Christian prisoners to the chief priests?”
Paul’s conversion occurred 4-7 years after the crucifixion
of Jesus. Saul’s name was changed to Paul in Acts 13: 9. A
memorable passage ensued when Paul asked King Herod
Agrippa, “Why should it be thought incredible by you that
God raises the dead?” Paul is credited with writing 13 books
of the New Testament: Romans, Corinthians 1-2, Galatians,
Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians 1-2, Timothy,
Thessalonians 1-2, Titus, and Philemon. In his writings,
Paul stressed the doctrine of‘salvation by faith.’ What
caused this zealous persecutor of Christians to become the
greatest spokesman for Christ the world has ever known?
