possible, the facilities m our reach. il/ercer University is the common
heritage of Georgia Baptists, left to all Georgia, by the rich bequeths,

We, your committee, on deceased ministers and deacons, beg leave to

hy death, our much beloved and much estimated brother, Elder J Heaton
from us. lie was a faithful minister of the gospel, lie was sound in faith;
and one vvfio contended earnestly for thefaith. lie was one who was much be-
loved by all who knew him. The Lord blessed Iiis labors, and many were
happily converted by his preaching, while we arc made to mourn his loss;
we humbly bow in submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well
And while liis loss to us is great, w-e consider it to be his eternal gain.
Bretheren let us not forget his Christian wife and his now five little help¬

Upon an examination of th?ir Records we see some cases of discipliti
which peruaps have caused some mi pleas ntness/but we are made to be*
Heve tiiat the joys a d pleasures they have liad in the thirty six years in
w hich they have met together, have far exceeded and made obsure, all the
troubles with which they have had to encounter, and by the grace of God
they souls, are still laboring and working for the cause of Christ, and the good of
according to their ability and as they have had opportunities. We
often thought about this name “Pleasant Grove.” How it was that
t |, cse Bretheren had decided to use it as the name of this their locality, and
c i iurc ' a 0 f Christ, and upon inquiry it was told us that it was so called
f rom | ts being a nice oak grove and so pleasantly situated upon an eleva-
ted plat of land, and when n the summer season every breeze *would cer-
tainly be felt. Prior to this inquiry, when we had enjoyed ourselves so
tI)Qc jj j n their meetings, and in their Sabbath School we imagined that they
ft| tieipated in this naming that they would in years to come have great ea-
joyment - and pleasure in holding sweet communion with one another, and
the holy spirit of God. As their children and grand children would be re
generated and born of the Spirit and brought into the fold of Christ.
