Sawing Machine. It is simple in structure, not
liable to get out of repair, easily worked, saws
with great rapidity, can be worked by one
hand;—a man with only one arm can saw up
wood faster than another man with two arms
can cut it with an axe. This is bv far the
sawing machine we have seen. Persons wish -

The time is about arrive J when the mer-
chants in many cities close business nt an car-
jy hour. This a g*od idea; where all unite in
doing so, no injustice is done any one: just as
many' goods are sold, and it gives the clerks
time for recreation, soci d enjoyment, mental
improvement, toatt nd p-ayer mettmu*;—in
fact it results in much ben •'til to many pcoD’e
without in;ury to any. We hope our mer¬
chants w ill soon adopt this plan.
To tho Businass Wen of Toccoa.
The News dc sire; to express thanks for the
substantial encouragement and aid the new
management has thus far received. Without
this aid, the succees attained could not liave
been reached.
The good words spoken on all sides the mate
fial help, subscribing and inducing otXcr pco
pie to subscribe, arc duly appreciated and
will ever be gratefully remembered.
The time has now arrived when the News
should have closer relations wiili every be si
ness man in Toccoa, A displayed advertise-
menf of each should be in its columns. The
interests of the city demands this. A newspa¬
per is an rxpom nt of the business of a town.
It is a mirror of what is doing. It exhibits
the possibilities of large and varied business;
people are attracted to the town, both for
trade and investments.
Second. It pays to advertise. Our most suc¬
cessful business men advertise rao ;t.
Third. A paper cannot live without liberal
advertisements.
A repiescntative of the News will shortly
call upon ill our business men and we sin-
< crly trust that every 7 house not carry ing an
ad will have one inserted. A live newspaper
well tilled with “ads.” indicates live, active
business men; this will draw custom, attract
capitalists, and make a town.
Mr. Thomas W. Me \llist»r presented his fa¬
ther, Mr. A. H. McAllister, with an elegant
cane on Wednesday. This cane is black ebo¬
ny, surmounted with a solid gold head of elab¬
orate and beautiful design. On the top is
neatly engraved the words,
To my Father
A. H. McALLISTER,
1889.
He also at the same time presented his
Mother, Mrs. V. I. McAllister with an elegant
ladies hunting case gold watch, neatly and
beautifully finished. It is a costly watch of
the finest workmanship. On it is engraved
To my Mother,
Mrs. J.V. McALLISTER,
1889.
The happy parents are delighted, as they
may well be, with these costly gifts, which
will always remind'them of the filial affection
of a beloved sjn.of whose noble character and
brilliant business career thej r must ever be
justly proud.

The foregoing letter to the Constitution de¬
velops the fact that John William Henry is
not only a good runner hut he is also some
pumpkins when it comes to handling the
goose quill.
We were aware of the fact ail along that he
was both br ive and smart—but we must con¬
fess that he displayed a greater degree of them
both than we had given him ere lit for, and
we are very much elated over the prospect of
again seeing him display lus courage which he
will have an opp rtunity of doing on his arri
val back here.
Now John William Henry if you will just
telegraph us when you will arrive here we
•will meet you at the depot and give you a re-
caution that will be both warm and impres¬
sive, such a one as will cause you to move at
the -10 mile an hour rate or iu a jogging trot;
which ever you please to call it. Of course we
dont expect to sca’ e you, but no doubt you
will leave town again rather than hart any of
us.
Now should anything happen to delay your
coming and you conclude to write again p>l ase
don’t mix in so much grave yard talk, it
makes us nervous.
“Say, now boys you just turn me loose and
1 will leave town on the first train.”
To John William Henryjuntil next time.

^° VP of Udl P ines and ma ;estk-oaks, pointing

were in the solemn pre 5 enee of Deity.
The day was delightful; dreamy, misty
clouds hung over the heavens, soft breeEes
gently sighed through the shady woods, and
the calm stiiluess of the holy Sabbath invited
to devout meditations.
The congregation was large; members of
several churches for many miles around as-
sem bled there in a general convocation, and a
large number of fine looking young people
was especially noticeable.
T *vrt we ejwo sermons;one by'.the Rev. G 6

borhood: the other by the Rev..T-Under-
wood, whose home is near Carnesville,
who is well known all over this region. The
speakers were earnest, at time's eloquent aud
preached two sermons of unusual excellence.
The great congr-gition joined in the songs of
praise, andihe music of many Yolees floated
out through the long drawn aisles of the sol-
emu forest, and jterchance was heard and re-
echoed >y loved ones in the blL-sful groves of
Paradise.
The church has been here over 70 years; of
the early worshipers only a few remain. One
