Don t Marry a jyian.to Reform Him.
BY T. A. C.
Don’t marry a man to reform him:
To God and your own soli be true;
Don’t link to his vices your virtue—
You'll rue it dear girl, if you do.
No matter how fervent his pleadings;
Be not by his promises led;
If lie can’t be a man while a wooing,
He’ll never be one when lie’s wed!
Don’t marry a man to reform him—
To repent it, alas, when too late!
The mission of wives least successful,
is the making of crooked limbs straight.
There’s many a maiden has tried it,
And proved it a failure at last.
Better tread life’s pathway alone, dear,
Than wed with a lover that’s “fast.”
Mankind’s much the same the world over;
The exceptions you’ll find are but few,
When the rule is defeat and disaster,
The chances arc great against you.
Dv n’t trust your bright hopes for
The future,
beautiful crown of your youth
To the keeping of one who holds lightly
His fair name of honor of truth.
To “honor and love” you must promise;
Don’t pledge what you cannot fulfill;
If lie'll have no respect for himself, dear,
Most surely, lie then, never will.
’ Tis told us a frown of a woman
Is strong as the blow of a man,
And the world will lie better when women
Frown at error as hard as they can.
Make virtue the price ofvour favor;
Place wrong doing under a ban;
And let him who would win and wed you,
Prove himself in full measure a man.

ALLIANCE NOTES.
Several papers are each eager to
become the organ of the State and
county alliances; no one has secured
the coveted prize.
The Alliances are passing resolu¬
tions in favor of the Olive and Brady
bills.
The State Alliance has voted to
use cotton bagging for cotton. It is
now suggested to use only cotton
sacks for guano.
Some of the Alliance members have
not bought a grain of sugar or a
pound of coffee this year. More oats,
wheat and corn are sown and planted
this year than ever before.
The Mississippi Alliance has a bag¬
ging factory m Jackson, a factory in
Winona for making wagons and farm
implements, and it runs a line of
steamers.
The wholesale merchants of Atlan ;
ta, decline to sell to Alliance stores
in some counties, because the retail
merchants object.
A dog tax of one dollar a head is
urged by Alliances, and petitions to
that effect will be presented to the
legislature in July.
It is estimated that the manufact¬
ure of low grade cotton into bagging
will consume nearly 200,000 bales;
and it is thought this will add from 1
to 5 dollars a bale.
It will take 5,000,000 yards of cot¬
ton to bale the Georgia crop. Verv
few of the large cotton mills can
make this bagging; the three mills in
Atlanta decline to make it on account
of additional outlay for machinery.
The mills at West Point can make
4500 yards a day; this for 300 days
would make only 1,350,000 yards.
Far better than the harsh treat¬
ment of medicines which horribly
gripe the patient and destroy the
coating of the stomach. Dr. J. H.
McLean’s Chills and Fever Cure, by
mild yet effective action will cure.
