fke Story of « Hors*.
It Is not often that a dealer in horses
gets oaught, bat a case in point shows
how a Kondout dealer was brought up
with a round turn. A man named
city Goodwin, ot Palenville, came to this
to purchase a horse. Entering a
mart in Abel street, the following con¬
versation took place:
“I want to buy a horse.*’
“Good. I have got just the kind of
animal that will suit you."
“Trot him oat.”
The horse was “trotted” out, and the
man from Palenville instantly recogniz¬
ed the beast. He had purchased it in
Montreal, Canada, fourteen years ago.
At that time the age of the horse was
given as six years. Ho had owned it
twelve years and then sold it to a man
who had it two years, thus making its
age twenty ye irs. While in Goodwin’s
possession the animal had acquired the
habit of chewing tobacco.

”
“How old is he?” inquired Goodwin.
“Seven years. He is as sound as a
Spanish gold dollar, and cau turn a
mile in less than three minutes.”
“Are you sure the horse is only Eleven
years old f”
“Certain sure. I know the man that
raised him.”
“Give me a chew of tobacco, will
you ? ’ said Goodwin. Receiving it he
handed the tobacco to the dealer with
the remark: “Just see if that horse will
chew.”
To the surprise of the horseman the
animal chewed the quid with evident
plensnro and whinnied for more.
>o you know this horse?” lie asked.
“Well, I ought to,” replied Goodwin,
“being as I owned him tw ]ve years.
He wa3 sis years old when I bought
him, and another man had him for two
yeais.
“Come out and take a drink,” said
the dealer. “That is the worst I ever
was sold in my life .—Kingston (N. Y.)

And where can you fiod the superior

during those dark hours of S.imni, when
destruction appeared inevitable, when

that grand old Anglo-Saxon cheer rang
out, as the brave eyes bedimmed with

must ihoee Briti-h sailers have yearned,
when free from peril, to k»o v something

How a King: Look*.
The aristocracy at Kingston 1 , St. Vin¬

blooded member of the royalty who is
being lionized. This remarkable person
is a king in exile. King Ja Ja, of Opobo,
West Africa, who for many years lorded
it over a smtli district arm mg the Oil
rivers of the Niger delta. The king
appears at the government home recep¬
tions and other state occasions. He
wears kn admiral’s coat wi h immense
bullion epaulettes, over a yellow plush
vest with big. green enamel buttons.
The vest is cut very low, displaying a
large area of immaculate linen. His jean
trousers have broad stripes of blue and
red, and black silk hose and a pair of
gorgeous, flower-embroidered s ippers
cover his neither extremities. On his
head he wears a broad-brimmed hat of
African manufacture, something like a
sombrero, and in the baud are stuck ajt
uniform distances, five long ostrich
feathers. In his ears are gold rings of
unique des’gn, and encircling liis neck is
a collar of harks’ teeth, with a bear’s
foo h tripped with gold by way of a pen¬
dant. lie wears white cotton gloves,
and as many rings as his fingers and
thumbs will accommodate.

Thai Tired feeilng
I» experienced by almost every one at this season, j
and many people resort to Hood’s Sarsaparilla to
drive away the langaor and exhaustion. The blood, '
laden with impurities which have been accumulat-
ins tor months, moves sluggishly through the
veins, the rated falls to think quickly, and the body ;
!* still slower to respond. Hood's Sarsaparilla Ss
just what is needed. It purldes, vitalizes and cn-
riches the blood, makes the head clear, creates an
appetite, overcomes that tired feeling, tones the
nervous system, and Imparts new strength and
vigor to tha whole body.

have been told that consumption is incurable; that when the lungs are
attacked by this malady, which is scrofula affecting the lung 3 and rotting them
out, the sufferer is past all help, and the end is a mere question of time. You
have noted with alarm the unmistakable symptoms of the disease; you have tried
all manner of so-called cures in vain, and You are now despondent and preparing
for the worst. But ‘don’t give up the ship’ while Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical
Discovery remains untried. It is not a cure-all, nor will it perform miracles,
but it is guaranteed to benefit or cure Consumption, if taken in time ana
