He brought from there cash subscription to the News for which he will please accept thanks. A mass meeting of the citizens of Franklin county resolved that “any system looking to a property tax to work the roads is unwise and unjust.” They favor the eniorcenient of the present law. The Sabbath Schools of the city had a pic¬ nic out to the Falls Friday, they must have had a splendid time for they stayed so late we had to go to press without giving an count of the fun; that must be deferred till next week. Of these cities he likes Augusta best; but amid all the attractions of beautiful cities, he finds there is no place for him like ‘Home Sweet Home.” Maj. This specimen glistens with sul- phure's and indicate? tbe possibility of a vein of the precious metal being near. Dr. Doyle, of Seneca, visited his friends in Toccoa on Wednesday, and gave the News office a welcome call. The Doctor says the mineral springs near our city contains valua- ble medicinal properties,' and is especially valuable for diseases of the kidneys; it con¬ tains iron and is au excellent tonic. Ylr. Her mission to Teccoa was to instruct the ladies of the W. C. IT. in the workings of the order, and to a- waken public sentiment in fa vor of the proln- bition movement. Elsewhere Mrs. Whitman give's an interesting account of her visit. The Rev. L. A-Simpson and Elder E. A. Newton have been absent about a week at- te-iding Presbytery which met in ..1y-Ville. The Re v. Simpson was Moderator. ’1 he j ro- cccdings were highly interesting; the rej'orts «om the , churches or , the , most cheering , char¬ acter; three new ministers have been added to the Presbytery and there is not a vacant church in its bounds. Two brothers, Samuel an q Thomas Cartlege were licensed to preach, They are the sons of the Rev. G. II. Cartlege, widely known in Georgia and so bighlj es- ^ teemed , wherever . known. He has been , iDg mostly within this Presbytery Ifor about 40 years. He is now about 75 years old, and notwithstanding his advanced age lie has just be n n called to take.charge of the church at Maysville, and wa%installed at this of the Presbytery. 'There weie two interesting scenes at this Presbytery. One was the parents were pres ent at the examination of their sons prejiara- tory to be licensed for the holy ministry. The aged mother sat near her boys, listening, doubtless with greater pride and deeper in teicst than if they were being President of the United State-. r i he other was the instillation of the Rev. Cartlege, old enough to be the father of those who officiated at the ceremonies. The Rev.L. A. Simpson gave the “charge to the Pastor,” and that must have been a rare spectacle, to witness a young man scarcely 30, giving ministerial advice to an old gentleman of 75, who has been in the ministry over 40 years.
