Sen l M-oney Order, Peslt*l Note or tj. ait. Address, Tup. Toccoa News, Toccoa. Gu Clayton W. 77. HUGHES, EDI TOP. Mrs. E. A. Bell left for Wallialla I‘»‘-t week for tho purpose of educa¬ ting Miss Katie in the higher crunch¬ es of learning. There seems to be an epidemic of tvphoi.1 fever in this county at pres- ent. It is a mild type rA the disease, however. , Hon. W. S. Long, J. A. Swafford and Bartow WhitmiVe, returned on Sunday last. i They report it as beino * T an enjoyable , , affair, » . and , on a prett 4 y big scale, like everything else Allan- ta does. G us says J that every thino- i« - r> pretty big, , . except the , cold , he caught . down there, it is simply elephantine in its proportions. 1 r The harrds that wore warned out to tho . , ... . war* road across 1 ayu r Cap, on Friday last, struck for a bot- -or grade or an easier road, worked out about 12 o’clock on that day and camo into town, saying that the Com¬ missioners who laid off and marked out the road were a set of Messrs. S. A. Beck, E. L. McCon¬ nell and J. M. Wilkersou left for the Exposition Sunday last. J. U. Merritt left on last Saturday for Cleveland to attend court. Mr. J. F. Earls says that although he is a merchant, he would like to purchase for his own use, one of the Alliance farmers planter’s and cultiva tors, if it is not contrary to the rules of the order to sell them to outsiders. Can any of our readers give him any information on that point? Mr. T. H. Jones, of the firm of E. P. West & Co. informed us that there was a tremendous run on the firm last woek for eye water and handkerchiefs Further inquiry resulted in the infor¬ mation that Joe and Tol were the par¬ ties creating the demand. Wonder if the departure of a couple of young ladies from this place was the cause of this extraordinary demand, and the inflamed appearance of the eyes of the above named young gentlemen. Clayton was visited on Monday by a regular confidence operator/calling himself Col. Pratt, and representing himself to be a man of some note in railroad circles. He succeeded in mulcting our fellow townsman, Mr. I). T. Duncan, out of $50 by his plausible representations. At last accounts he was enroute for Toccoa, and the people at that town are warn¬ ed against trusting to any of his oily stories. ABOUT WOMEN. Mrs. J/akay wife of the “bonanza king” ownes the suberb robe preseii* ted to the Empress Eugene by municipality of Paris. The robe is of lace, entirely covered with flowers. It. is made at Chantilly and it took live hands fourteen years to make it, •at a CCSt of ^20,000, Miss Jennie Gilder the editor «iC Critic, is a slangs compound of the masculine and feminine traits, In winter she wears an ulster down to her feet; the waist of her dress is clo ? fitting sack coat, with a man'. pockets; under this is a man s vest, holding ?, a watch and chain; ’ t er stand* mg collar and , cravat , are cnurely . , masculine.
